HOW I USE THIS PRODUCT: Daily to teach music classes in a variety of classrooms. I teach elementary general music, band classes and individual music lessons using this speaker set and my iPod.
THE GOOD (GREAT): 1) Battery life. I charge it and my iPod each night at home and use it all day (6hrs+) - never runs low. 2) Sound quality. No, the sound is not as good as my home stereo, but it equals or surpasses any other portable music option (boom box, iPod docks, etc...) I can turn it up loud enough for a room of 40 students with good sound. 3) Remote. Says it works about 3m (10ft) but it works nearly anywhere in my room. 4) Size/Portability. I travel from room to room and building to building with my stuff in a book bag, this fits nicely and doesn't weigh much.
THE BAD: Low end response. It's actually very good for a product this size. You just can't get good bass from 2" speakers.

I have owned mine for about two days and like the feature set. Unit plays from iPod, FM from broadcast and CD input via a hard line. The onboard battery is nice giving about five hours playing without being plugged in according to the manual. Audio needs base help, some music just needs a substantial base to sound right. According to the supplied documentation Altec Lansing makes a powered subwoofer part number: BB2001 (List price $50) but i have not been able to find any to purchase. I have a question in to Altec Lansing as to a substitute unit if the BB2001 is no longer manufactured.
Expertise: ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Problems Encountered: None so far. Documentation is minimal but the unit was easy to figure out. Slight difficulty in figuring out which side went up on installation of the remotes battery. The remote battery tray is slightly dished and so is the button cell.
Previous Equivalent Item Owned: None, this is my first iPod speaker
Items I Recommend: powered subwoofer if you can find it.

I selected the Altec unit for my IPOD choice over the Bose because Altec looked more durable and read a review in Outside Mag. favoring this unit. I've had mine for a year and it works great. The only problem is the remote sometimes won't respond fully.

This is a great sounding player for the price. The alarm clock works nicely. Would be nice if the antenna would move to vertical, like the photo shows. It only pulls out to the side.

Good sound for a small, portable speaker. Works well with the iPod touch, but not the iPhone 3G. Won't charge the iPhone 3G and will only play in airplane mode, so you won't be able to receive calls.

I enjoy its portability around the house, but fear my ipod might fall into the toilet, since it is not secured into the base. I also like the fact that I do not have to buy batteries.

The sound is great and I really like that it has FM radio. Some downsides are that it only comes in black and the battery to the remote was difficult to install. Also, some things can only be changed by remote, so don't lose it!

I use this with my iPod 160GB & it sounds great, love the fact it has built in battery & FM radio.
Only drawback for me is that the radio doesn't pick barely in my cubicle.

Comments about Altec Lansing iM600 inMotion Portable Audio Speaker System for iPod with FM:
This is the best value on the market. It's got great sound for a small unit, a quality radio, and a built in lithium ion rechargeable battery as well! I'm very happy with this purchase. That being said, if you are looking to really head bang, or like to pump up your bass and dance, dance, dance, this may not be the right choice for you.

Comments about Altec Lansing iM600 inMotion Portable Audio Speaker System for iPod with FM:
I liked the size of this unit and its portability. Sound quality was very nice.
Expertise: I'm not an audiophile
Problems Encountered: But, after a couple days of light usage(less than 1 hr) the unit stopped functioning. Sent it back to manufacturer with quick response to replace the unit. After a month of waiting, another inquiry to the delay said there was a backorder and that the unit had just shipped out a few days earlier. It's now another month and no speakers, no response from company. I think I'll stay away from this manufacturer's products.
