I do mostly landscape photography far from home. I have a netbook with me, but it's mostly for email and backups not viewing photos or even test photos. So I wanted a loupe to field check my sensor when I suspect dust. My choice was between the 7x magnification and the 5x. Since depth of field is inversely proportional to magnification, I went for depth of field. 5x seems perfectly satisfactory. Being $25 cheaper didn't make the lower magnification any less hard to swallow. I presume there are good design reasons for the 7x. Toss your own coin. I think you'll be satisfied.

I thought the slide switch for the light was neat until it died after just under a month's light duty. Now must be held in to function.
Greatest thing ever for digging out splinters - for checking your DSLR sensor, not so hot.

Comments about Visible Dust Brite Vue Sensor Loupe:
This is a great concept, but it's not made very well in the battery holding area. When I placed the batteries in the slot and turned it on it didn't work. As I played with it the light would come on intermittently. I realized the batteries were not making a good contact. I tried to tighten up the contacts, but this is not a well made piece in this area. The rest of it is well made, but it's not worth much if the lights don't come on. I wasn't very impressed.

Sensor cleaning is now this simple: Use the loupe to check for dust, dry clean with a sensor sweep, use the loupe again to verify. No more taking test photos, and perfect results every time.

Makes it easy to see where the dust is on your sensor. Use it before and after cleaning (to make sure you got all the dust).

i dont see how one could clean a camara sensor properly without the loupe to see where the dirt and dust is located.

You will see it all - right down to that tiny little speck that has been ruining your day, making you clone sky after sky. With this loupe you can get all of the gunk out of the camera BEFORE you shoot, saving tons of time cloning and cleaning image.

Once you get the hang of how to focus your eyes through the Sensor Loupe, you get quite a good view of dust and smudges. This is very helpful in cleaning the sensor of my Canon 40D.

Essential accessory for the ARCTIC BUTTERFLY - purchased it combined with the PRO kit. This loupe is used to spot dust on the sensor to check the effectiveness of cleaning. Optical quality is good, illumination is very effective, and the loupe is easy to use. Saves a lot of time.
A little bit more magnification would be useful for those with less than perfect eye sight.

This is a very nice component to have. Useful for all aspects of the sensor cleaning process, even just examining the chamber - locating mirror dust, etc.

Maybe you were born with multiple hands, but I only have two. This product is great for illuminating and magnifying any dust on my sensor. No longer do I have to balance a flashlight, magnifying glass and camera body. The dust I couldn't find with my naked eye is much more visible with the loupe - this is exactly what I expected and paid for.

Comments about Visible Dust Brite Vue Sensor Loupe:
Used on a canon 5D I was concerned with the newer higher magnification loupe that this may not provide adequate magnification. But it does. I imagine more would be better, but not necessary. Essential piece if you are going to clean your own sensor.

A must have to find exact location of pesky dust spots. I used sensor to find dust spots and Arctic Butterfly SL-700 brush to successfully clean Minolta 7D and Sony A100 cameras in about 1/2 hour. No need for the f32 shot with this - saves much time!

Comments about Visible Dust Brite Vue Sensor Loupe:
The sensor loupe is a MUST have if you clean your own sensor. It helps see the sensor more clearly, allowing you to accurately determine whether it's clean or not. I borrowed one on a recent trip and quickly placed my order within minutes to get one for myself.
Comments about Visible Dust Brite Vue Sensor Loupe:
I have poor eye sight so I am always looking for something that will make sensor cleaning easier. I chose this one over the Delkin version because it seemed (on Paper) to be brighter and was reviewed as being better for FF sensors. I have never used the Delkin but I think this VD model is probably better for FF sensors than the Delkin which locks in place because I could move this on around and see into the sensor corners better. It is bright too. I checked my 5D sensor and saw no dust so I did not clean it--a good thing is avoiding unnecessary cleaning. I then looked at my 1Ds2 sensor and one speck of dust clearly lit up. Rather than using a Lenspen, I used a blower and rechecked it and the speck was gone. Again minimal cleaning. I did this all in about 5 minutes which is way faster than the sky shooting at f22. Fast and easy and effective. Highly recommended.
Expertise: Serious amateur
Items I Recommend: Lenspen sensor cleaner and Arctic Butterfly
