Sound Forge 9 from Sony Media Software is a digital audio editor that includes a powerful set of audio processes, tools and effects for manipulating audio. It is the tool of choice for media professionals who want to create and edit digital audio files with absolute speed and precision. New in version 9 is support for multi-channel, as well as stereo file creation, editing and management.

Stable, and with a clear interface, the software provides everything needed to analyze, record and edit audio, produce music loops, digitize and clean-up old recordings, model acoustic environments, create streaming media and master replication-ready CDs. Most elements within the interface are customizable, by utilizing different colors for waveforms and envelopes, or setting default window heights.

A full version of CD Architect 5.2 is included, providing comprehensive disc-at-once CD burning. The software includes CD Text reading and writing and updated drive support. Files can be directly exported from Sound Forge to CD Architect with regions automatically imported as CD tracks for fast and efficient CD creation. Also included are Noise Reduction 2.0 plug-ins and a mastering bundle powered by iZotope.

Users of Sound Forge 9 can now upload completed songs directly from inside the software to SIM (Sony Music Studios Internet Mastering) and avail themselves of the same professional mastering services provided by Sony Music Studios, without actually having to physically go there.

Audio Editor

Cut, paste, mix, crossfade and delete audio with speed and accuracy
Allows for opening, editing and saving multi-channel files just like stereo files. Those who need to edit files from XDCAM cameras and decks, multi-channel field recorders, and surround mixes can work on the multiple channels within a single file at the sample level
Scrub tool helps to quickly and easily find areas in an audio file. Custom key commands can be setup for frequently used processes
Files are edited non-destructively in real-time at the sample level and changes can be auditioned immediately
Volume and Pan envelopes allow for visually adding precise changes in any audio file over time for easier mixing
Graphic fades, fade-ins, fade-outs, and crossfades are quick and easy to perform. Fast, slow, smooth, sharp, and hold fade types are available in the Graphic Fade, Pan/Expand, Pitch-Bend, Envelope, and FM Synthesis dialogs
Marker and ruler types have been updated in Sound Forge 9, with edit-in-place and new snapping functionality including snap to grid, markers and zero crossing
Multi-task background rendering while working on another file

Audio Recording

Includes low-latency ASIO driver support, providing faster, professional results and access to support of additional sound cards
Multi-channel audio recording when using multi-channel sound cards. Each audio stream can be set to a particular channel and edited in the Sound Forge interface just like a stereo file
VU meters for playback and record monitoring accurately determine RMS volume levels and provide greater perceived loudness control when mastering audio projects
Automated time-based recording. Start and stop recording can be based on the computer's system clock with a choice of start time, duration and end time. Items may be scheduled to record on minute, daily, or weekly basis
Audio threshold record triggering can be configured to record when a predetermined audio input level reaches a preset threshold, with recording continuing as long as the level is exceeded, and stopping after the threshold is no longer maintained. Perfect for unattended, off-site recording, dictation, or any time unattended recording is required. Sensitivity settings are customizable with user-definable threshold and release patterns
Can be set to record audio when MIDI timecode is detected
Prerecord buffer eliminates dropouts and missed audio at the start of a recording

Tools and Effects

Includes the complete Noise Reduction 2.0 series of plug-ins, including Noise Reduction, Audio Restoration, Click and Crackle Removal and Clipped Peak Restoration
Mastering Effects Bundle powered by iZotope includes Mastering Reverb, Multiband Compressor, IRC Limiter loudness maximizer and a six-band Mastering Parametric Equalizer
VST plug-in support expands on the number of effects one can apply, increasing mastering flexibility
Application scripting can be used to automate common tasks and create customized features. Application scripting tools include the script editor window and toolbar and the software ships with premade scripts of commonly used tasks. Scripting languages supported are C#, JScript and VBScript
Batch conversion can apply the same effects and processes to multiple files, saving hours of editing time. Digital audio files can be converted into different formats including MP3, WMA, AIF, and RM, eliminating repetitive tasks
Over forty professional studio effects and processes that include 200 presets. Automatable effects include volume, delay, chorus and more
The included white, pink and brown noise generators are invaluable for audio testing, room acoustic analysis and measurements. These filters are also useful for creating sound effects such as water, wind, helicopters and more
Clipped peak detection and marking. The software automatically scans sections of audio files and marks sample peaks that are clipping. These indicators also show up in the Regions List for immediate identification. Audio Restoration tools can eliminate clicks, pops and other noise from the mix

Comments about Sony Creative Software Sound Forge 9 Digital Audio Production Suite:

I'm in a process of learning, how to use this software. This software for pro and I'm just a amateur. This is why I give only 4 stars because is very difficult to learn. In edition I did purchase DVD "The Seminars Series" for this software, but they not helpful at all.
