I found this book only partially useful. The three things some image and descriptions lacked were (1) better descriptions on how the pictures were taken (time of day, position of sun/light, white balance, etc.), (2) EXIF data for each image, and (3) before and after images so readers can see the difference made by use of the filter(s). For example, you can control the amount of light that enters the camera by aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Without the EXIF data one cannot tell the effect these variables had on the image. The assumption made in each case was that the filter was responsible for the effects. Some authors were more descriptive than others in providing this information. That said, there were some stunning examples and after reading it I know I will change my technique for some pictures.

This book provides a very good introduction to the use of basic and not so basic filters. The things that I like are:

1. a brief biography of each photographer is given in the front of the book, together with a website where you can go and see their work.

2. Each image shows the photographer who took it, the filters that were used, their placement and the result. This way, I at least have a"model" to use in trying some of my image shots with their filters.

3. Each description and the accompanying photos and drawings are covered in two pages that can be read independently of all the others, so if I am interested in a particular filter or filter combination, I can simply flip to the appropriate pages and read the text and see the result.

4. Although published for a specific brand of filters, the methods can be used for any brand of square or rectangular filters.

The only downside, if it can be called that, is that all the photographers and most of the images are from the same part of the world, but this shouldn't stop anyone who wants to learn about the use of filters from acquiring the book.

It is a very useful complement to my photography library and gives me some very definitive ideas about how to use some of the filters.

Good example pics and filters used, would like to see a before/after example of each picture. Book is much smaller than it looks. Overall its a nice introductory to filters.

Getting started in film medium format for landscape photography. Researching filters discovered this book. Excellent landscape photo examples with details on which filters used and how they were positioned to create picture. Not a elementary book on what a filter is and what it does, rather a pleasant peek at possibilities when using square format filter systems.

An excellent book which covers the usage of square filters for use with holders.

Various types of filters are "advertised" in this book ranging from ND to soft filters to soft and hard edged filters, this book covers most of the basics of what a newbie filter user would love to learn from.

A must buy for any landscape or portrait photographer looking to shoot with little to none post processing to make your photos looks attractive.

I purchased the book after a recommendation from a friend. The book is very well put together, it shows examples from several sucessful photograghers and each photographer goes into depth on how they set up the particular shot, what they wanted to achieve and the equipment they used.
Rather than just dry data, you get to see the result of the individual technique. For me, that provides a goal to try to achiev, when I can see what result can be achieved.
Although it's produced by a manufacturer of filters, you don't get the feeling any particular product is being pushed. It really is a resource collection from professional photographers providing you with their vast experience.

I love this book. If your new to filters especially ND filters and interested in how they can improve your land or seascape photography this is for you! Photo's are great with good technical back up for application.

This book was smaller than I had anticipated; however, it was certainly worth the price. I must have looked at the photos in the book at least a dozen times over the past couple of weeks.
I believe in the use of ND filters to balance the light in your image and to enhance saturation and color; you won't have to PS as much. As it is appropriated titled, it will inspire you!

I'm very glad I bought this at the same time I purchased some 6x4" filters. It basically provides information and examples of use for most of the filter in the Lee range.

The specific examples are easy to follow and do give you more of an idea about how these filters can be applied, either alone or in various combinations, to enhance image production before post-processing. Individual photos are presented, taken by pro photographers, along with an account of why they opted to use the filters they did and small diagrams showing exactly where in the image those filters were applied.

The design of the book is excellent and easy to follow, and could in many ways be classified as a good quality coffee table book as it contains many beautiful photos.

Book dimensions: 8.5" x 6" and about 0.75" thick (132 pages)

This book gives good examples of the use of differant types of filters. It also helps with exprosure when using filters. This book shows how using old school technique can save a lot of time in post processing giving better results.

Inspiring Professionals brings to light the filtering techniques used by top professional photographers, and helps bring new ideas to your photography. Using inspiring photographs to demonstrate techniques, the photographers also enlighten the reader with succinct and often entertaining writings and explanations. The hardbound book is small enough to carry with you in the field, so you can read through it again while waiting for the perfect light. The illustrations that accompany the photographs truly make sense.

I am slowly building my Lee Filter system beyond graduated neutral density and warm up filters. This book is very helpful in deciding which filters to own, and how to use them. Highly recommended.

The book is for landscape photographers who prefer capturing realistic images in the field rather than on the computer. I learned and used a couple of ideas, so the [$] was well invested. But, be warned, in order to use all the pros' techniques you may need to spend [$]+ on a filter system!

This is a wonderful little book, filled with beautiful landscapes. The author explains the use, as well as his use of filters. Even if you only purchase this book for others to look through it is well worth the price.
