Comments about Rolls HR73 - Rack Mount MP3 Recorder/Player:
I'm a recording engineer in Las Vegas and I purchased this MP3 recorder as a backup for when I'm recording live shows. If my digital multitrack system decides to be difficult then I need a Plan B because unlike a studio recording, I only get one chance to record a live show. I have owned Rolls equipment back 15 years ago and was happy with it. I recently purchased their new MP3 recorder, CD/MP3 Player, 6ch Headphone Amp and 6ch mixer because I was building a super-compact system for a client and Rolls' equipment is certainly the most compact I have seen. But that's about all I can say good about it after I received it and tried to use it at a show.
The new HR73 says it will record to up to 16GB USB Flash Drives or SD cards. It won't. 2GB and below work but above 2GB it's hit and miss.
There are no meters to monitor the recording level. There is no headphone jack in front and the 1/8 inch jack in back is only active in play mode so you can't monitor your inputs in any way while recording. Even if there was a way to visually or audibly see/hear how hot your incoming signal is, there is no input level control so you can't adjust it anyway. This makes this unit useless for anything but simple archival voice recording.

Comments about Rolls HR73 - Rack Mount MP3 Recorder/Player:
If what you're looking for is a simple to use, rack-mountable mp3 recorder, this is your machine. Nothing more complicated than pressing record to start, and stop to finish. Especially good for churches with older volunteers who do the starting and stopping.
Only takes 1/2 Gb SD disks, so be sure and get some before you can't get any that small. Still plenty of room for several hours of recording. I've recorded four hours with room to spare. Transfer hours of audio in seconds instead of minutes.
One downside: the recording is slightly slower than real time, so synching the audio with a separate video track is tricky. I've found that speeding up the audio 101.23% does the trick, though. If it weren't for this, it would get four stars.
