The Fujifilm IS-1 Digital Camera is specially designed to photograph subjects in both normal visible light and in the near infra-red range (400nm-900nm). This makes it well suited for forensic or scientific applications as well as creative infra-red photography.
The camera features Fujifilm's Super CCD HR sensor and Real Photo Processor, delivering IS0 1600 performance and enabling capture of crisp and clear images even in low light conditions. The camera's 10.7x (28-300mm 35mm equivalent) zoom lens incorporates aspherical elements that result in a sharper image and minimizes distortion and aberrations. The lens is easily controlled via a manual zoom ring to give pinpoint accuracy when composing images. Furthermore, its fixed housing ensures that users do not have to contend with specks of dust or dirt collecting on the sensor. This can compromise image quality and is a drawback often associated with conventional digital SLRs.
Image quality in the IS-1 has been enhanced through improvements to its processing algorithms, and composition of photographs is made easy with a two-inch tilting LCD monitor which provides clear, flexible shooting at awkward high or low angles. In addition, the camera has 0.01 second shutter-lag and 0.8 second start-up time, which means that images can be composed and captured almost instantaneously. Additionally, the high ISO performance, helps to combat image blur caused by subject movement as well as camera shake.
Note: Unfiltered color images will retain a pink hue due to the added presence of increased red and infrared light captured. A great deal of this cast can be eliminated by adding a hot mirror filter or UVIR cut filter to remove the presence of IR light.
Note: Because of the wide range of light spectrums captured, focusing and exposure may often need to be done manually. However if enough visible light is available, the auto focusing will work.
Note: I-Flash is not fully functional when the lens is filtered for IR capture only.

Comments about Fujifilm IS-1 Digital Camera with Infra-Red Capability:
I have a good friend that was into IR Photography, he is more serious than I am, I do mostly weddings. Anyway, he went as far as having a camera converted for IR, which cost about what this camera did. I saw a posting about this one somewhere and thought it would be a good addition to some of my landscape work, and perhaps a few bridal portraits too.. Well I was right.. I first got it, and using an Hoya 72 filter I got great results right out of the box. I was supprised by the quality when hand holding ability of the camera. Being based on a consumer camera I figured it was at best a toy, I was wrong. I've since done Panoramic landscapes with it and they stitch together great.
There is a little grain in the pictures but I think that adds to the images artstic side.
Be prepared to do a little photoshop work to get the images you want.. It does movies in IR too but not sure what use that is to me, I'm sure there is some use for it in some other fields where this camera is marketed.
It's not my 40d but it has earned it's place in my camera bag.

Using for infra-red capability. Even using 89b filter, you can actually SEE your image on the LCD screen. Great for my purposes. Lightweight and easy to handle.

Comments about Fujifilm IS-1 Digital Camera with Infra-Red Capability:
My IS-1 was an exploration - I'd seen the world of others infrared but wanted to see my own - I'd tried a point-and-shoot IR camera which produced some interesting images but with minimal viewing assistance and image sizes that didn't tolerate much cropping - A live view and generous pixel count created an instant liking for this camera - It's vision into an unseen world that continues to reveal magic.

Comments about Fujifilm IS-1 Digital Camera with Infra-Red Capability:
I have been using the IS-1 for B&W infared photography. It has been a dream to use. I carry it with the infared filter on it, leave it in program and use under/over exposure button with the adjustment wheel to get the exposure I want. Being able to view the image while adjusting the exposure insures I"ll get the effect I want. I only wish the LCD screen on the back was larger. For a medium sized camera, it is light weight and the zoom has a great range. I would recomend to anyone wanting to explore the odd world of infrared. I plan on using it on a trip to Ireland in August, to suppliment my traditional camera.

Comments about Fujifilm IS-1 Digital Camera with Infra-Red Capability:
I'm a general surgeon and advanced fine-art photographer. Using IR filters and IR cut hot mirror, I enjoy the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of the camera as a medical scientist and keen enthusiast in IR
and visible light photography (until now, I used another digital camera set at nightshot with an array of IR and ND filters - and some
vigneting!). The real-time Infrared preview is fine for manual critical focusing and exposition. I'm confortable in using this camera and strongly recomend it for scientists and IR
photographers.

I was a little disappointed with the image quality. I get allot of noise. I may just be spoiled by Pro DSL's.

Comments about Fujifilm IS-1 Digital Camera with Infra-Red Capability:
I have used this camera for the last 6-months and have found it to be one of the best cameras I have in stock for shooting Black/White using the Infra-Red settings. For outstanding outdoor photography use a Peca 904 filter for outstanding results. If you want great color shots switch camera to color using a Peca 916 Visible Pass filter. You can not go wrong with such a great all purpose camera.
