The XL42 from Midas is a dual-channel microphone preamp and equalizer, featuring the four-band parametric EQ section and microphone/line preamps originally found on the Midas XL4 live console. Each channel has input, output and pan rotary controls, ten-segment LED metering plus a switchable insert send and return point.
The unit can be used as a stand-alone microphone preamp for stereo recording, or as an additional microphone preamp/EQ for a console with a lesser quality front-end. Additionally, multiple units can be daisy chained together as a "sub mixer" via "Link Inputs", with the combined output available at the last unit. The pan rotary controls are active in this application.
Each channel of XL42 has DIP switches that allow the engineer to enable automute scene control from the automute masters of Midas' XL consoles. Included automute link socket can be used to extend the automute connection to other XL42s in a daisy chain situation.
