Aluratek aptly describes this 10.5" Hi-Res Digital Picture Frame as a Digital Lifestyle Device. This frame's features allow it to bridge the gap between a digital camera and a home computer, while they can both remain off as the digital frame shows off images. A user can copy images into the frame's 256MB of internal memory from either a digital camera memory card inserted in the frame's multi-card slot, or from a USB cable linked to a PC/Mac/Linux computer. Alternately, the frame can slideshow images directly from a memory card, and can display photo, video, or audio files on its own screen or an external display.
This frame has a decorative, non-interchangeable sleek black wooden frame that is of good quality and quite stylish. It can be mounted on a flat surface like a desktop or mantle with an included stand, or simply hung on a wall.

I purchased the Aluratek frame based on the best size-to-resolution ratio and after reading a fair number of reviews on this and other frames. This is my first digital picture frame, so I do not have any other direct experience but I can say that the quality met my expectations: solid and pragmatic. The color, brightness and resolution were more than adequate, actually quite acceptable given the price. But do not expect the same quality and image control you'd see in a similar size laptop screen. The resources just aren't there.
Set up was extremely straightforward. I loaded over 800 shots of various resolution on a 2Gb SD card and plugged it in. Previous reviews had alerted me to the problem of reading jpeg files saved using older versions of PaintShop Pro; I can confirm the problem showed up on my frame as well. Thus it took an extra round of editing to identify the few offending files I had in my collection, resave them with an an alternate tool and reinsert the SD card into the Aluratek. All worked well after that. There are 3 speeds available for slideshow playback and basic image tweaking controls. Aside from playback speed, I found it far easier to make any changes by moving the SD card back to my desktop PC and changing the order, orientation and cropping of images there. Also, since this was ultimately intended as a gift to my in-laws I kept all images at one top directory level, though multiple levels are supported.
In the end the gift was a huge hit. My non-computer literate in-laws are comfortable with the controls and sincerely enjoy the ability to watch years of family pictures scroll by.

I purchased this frame as a birthday gift for my wife and after uploading some pictures and approximately 1/2 hours use it failed to turn on again.
I returned it for a replacement and the exact same thing happened after perhaps an hour's use. My wife contacted Tech Support and the suggestion was that the transformer possibly overheated and to try using another one.
That didn't work. I then called Tech Support and this time the suggestion was to reset the automatic on/off switch. Great advice since it can't be turned on! We were assured that we had not done anything wrong and to otherwise return it. Lame, lame advice. Besides having uploaded many personal pictures, many of my wife's professional photographs are in the memory which we now have to relinquish hoping that they will be destroyed by the manufacturer.
The picture quality was great as was the frame but otherwise a piece of junk with only a 120 day warranty. Very disappointing and worth the back and forth. DON'T TAKE A CHANCE AND BUY IT!

As a father of a one-year old, we have lots of nice photos that we didn't see very often. With this frame, our photo memories are constantly on display! I bought this as a gift for my wife, and she loves it! Relatively easy to load photos, although locating and using the 256MB internal memory was more challenging than expected. Good quality display, very nice size for viewability, even from across the room.

Very classic design. Looks like a black photo frame with a white matte. Digital photo size is between 5x7 and 8x10. Not too small/not too large. Bright screen - very nice images. Purchased two - one for home, one for office. Very happy with both.

We had a previous model and were unimpressed with the software. This model has superior software options and thus, superior display functions. Number images sequentially as you'd like them to display. They are "time stamped" as you transfer for chronological showing but the sequential numbering seems to trump chronological.

I bought this for my wife for christmas, and she loves it. Resolution is excellent, on board memory is suffeient, easy to use a USB or flash card for veiwing. Loading from the remote to memory takes some time, but pluged into the computer is a breeze. Frame size gives us nice good size pictures to enjoy with out straining.

Bought this as a gift for my father-in-law, it has good screen resolution. The only drawback is that I cannot get it to automatically start the slideshow on powerup.

Loading photos from computer and camera card are very easy. Run the slide-show (or leave single photos up) on my desk at work. Remote control is a very convenient feature.
Don't like that the slide-show speed can't be specifically set -- just slow/med/fast. Would have liked to change photos every 10-30 minutes at the office.
Wish I had more control over the order of the images shown.

nice resolution but displayable colors aren't at the same level: banding artifacts appear on gradients. you have to copy each images individually to the embedded memory to use it.

[...]Problems Encountered: I bought 4 of this Aluratek 10,5 dig Pict frame for Christmas gifts. Tried one with putting in av CF memory card from my camera and it worked ok to watch and to load. But when I put a mp3 player right in the USB port, I didn't get any reactions.Do I have to load driver for mp3 or is it something wrong??
Comments about Aluratek 10.5" Hi-Res Digital Picture Frame (Black):
I agree with the previous poster that the interface designteam must have been in a rush to leave early the day theyfinished this one- among a few other things, the icon toselect photos stored in onboard memory is labeled NAND.But there was nothing I couldn't figure out in a fewseconds, and it does work, so I don't consider this to be abig deal. It does not seem to like JPG files created byPaint shop Pro, but works fine with others, so I can livewith this too. Picture quality and resolution are very goodfor the price, but the 120-day warranty does not impress. All in all, I'd buy it again, assuming it holds up.

Problems Encountered: Doesn't like JPG files from Paint shop Pro (Ver. 9)Interface is a little crude, but it gets the job done.
Comments about Aluratek 10.5" Hi-Res Digital Picture Frame (Black):
Most frames do not come with onboard memory, Aluratek's 256mb holds couple hundred of my family photos and plays music in slideshow mode. It wasn't rocket science, just copied images and songs from my computer to the onboard memory and voila! The resolution is just as good as any I've seen out there. Folks, don't expect digital photo frames to have Hi-Def quality, it is what it is, simple and good resolution, gets the job done which is to view your stored photos. I love it.
Problems Encountered: Just the side buttons are confusing but who cares, just use the remote.
Comments about Aluratek 10.5" Hi-Res Digital Picture Frame (Black):
I wrote to Aluratek support and got a reply that they are still trying to figure that out. Other than that it is excellent. Gave it to my parents and they love it - going to get another for my in-laws.
