After reading some of the reviews of this product I was a little concerned about what might await me when I tried to install it. Well, I needn't have been concerned. I followed the directions and it installed very easily. Once the installation was complete, the application launched and brought up a user friendly interface.

I filled up the slide holder and slid it into the unit. I pressed the pre-scan button in the Silverlight application and to my surprise I had just scanned my first slide. No muss, no fuss....it really was that simple.

I spent another half an hour playing with the various scan settings in Silverlight and found that the scanner and the software work great together. The scanner is fast and provides great resolution and color depth that provide details I hadn't noticed in the slides before. Can hardly wait to see what it does with my negatives.....

What can I say? For ease of use, incredible scan resolution and an impressive scanning toolset, the OpticFilm 7200 Scanner from Plustek Technology Inc. is an absolute winner!

bought this to scan to dvd an underwater slide show i took with a nikonosV, varied different transparency films, along with varied other 35mm slides (varied transparency films). it installed fine, it works fine, but i had to spend a ton of time adjusting the settings to get a decent clear photo. (still not happy with these initial results). i haven't even used the advanced silverfast software with it yet...i suppose once i've spend more time with this (translation: a LOT more time with it) perhaps i will be more complimentary of the product. it's also going to be time consuming because it only loads four slides at a time...bummer, i've got hundreds.
NOTE-i had done a lot of research before buying this one, and, the specs claim that the resolution is about 3 or 4 times better than the two previous scanners i bought, so, it should eventually work out to be better.

Comments about Plustek Technology Inc. OpticFilm 7200, 7200 dpi, 35mm, Film Scanner:

Easy to set up via directions. Logical progression with software once you get used to it. Slide strip has click points to keep slides centered. Software is the key ingredient here. Allows auto set color, exposure, clarity but you also can manually adjust settings.

The graduation/adjustment chart is most useful and the filter pulldown is great for setting clarity. Scanning time required some time the higher the DPI used. Scratch and dust removal adds an extra 50 seconds to a scan. Scan rates 1200 DPI 15 sec. @4.88 MB, 1800 DPI 22 sec. @5.65 MB, 3600 DPI 60 sec. @ 38 to 44 MB. The 5000/10000 DPI setting are so dense that you probably won't be able to open a file, HOWEVER, if you crop a small portion of an image, you can boost the DPI to 5000 or higher because the MB required is smaller (38 MB or so). 10000 BPI image takes 7 minutes to scan @280 MB plus. Everything came out as a TIFF.

The software has built in movies provided by the developer to explain all functions. Otherwise experiment with the tools yourself to see outcomes and getting comfortable with its use.

The only problem with the scanner was it would periodicly stop communicating with the software and a scan could not be initiated. Here, a reboot of the scanner or even the computer is necessary. When this happens, a message comes up- "an error accured at the start of the scanning process".

The software (German Mfg.)requires getting used too. There are several ways to accomplish the same adjustment. After doing a 100 plus slides, I was comfortable with the various tools. Double clicking on the "start prescan' is important to remember, most everything else is a single click.

Everything I expected out of the plustek 7200 came to pass considering the output of quality and use versus its pricepoint.

I am already recommending this scanner to a friend who has thousands of slides he wants to store on a hard drive.

I am still on a learning curve with the Silverfast software but the scanner itself couldn't be easier to use. For years I would bulk load film, shoot and process. Then make a contact sheet and only print the best ones. By scanning the other negatives, I can see things that the lupe missed 25 years ago. If you have a large collection of negatives as most longtime photographers do, or you have aquired the family negatives, you need this scanner.

Comments about Plustek Technology Inc. OpticFilm 7200, 7200 dpi, 35mm, Film Scanner:

I have already scanned 1200 slides with this scanner and it works great. It really punches up the color and sharpens the images beautifully. If you're trying to use the scratch remover, it takes a little trial and error to get it the way you want it, other than that, this product is wonderful and SilverFast SE is probably the best software I've ever used. The nice thing about SilverFast is that you can scan directly into Photoshop, which makes fine tuning of an image a breeze. Truly an easy product to use. Very user friendly as well.

I'm using this to scan my parents' and inlaws' old slides. Installation required two attempts, but it works fine now. I had to tweak the settings a little to get an acceptable scan, but for my purposes, the output is very nice. I don't use the included editing/organizing software, since there are lots of choices for that already available. The user interface on the software could be better, but it works well enough. Vendor should include two trays so you can load one while using the other.
