Comments about AJA IoHD FireWire-800 Analog/Digital Capture Device with Apple ProRes 422:
The AJA IOHD is one of the most versatile pieces of hardware that I use in my workflow. As my subject describes, it is truly the Swiss Army Knife of capture devices. There is almost nothing this device cannot capture or output. The fact that I can capture directly into FCP is awesome, and the codecs allowing for ProRes 422 capture make this the simplest and easiest solution to a workflow where an internal card won't work (as with a laptop).
One of the functions I only figured out after buying the device is the ability for the IOHD to operate as a stand-alone video converter. I had no idea this was a possibility, and it's already come in handy once. I've used it to convert an analog S-Video feed to HD-SDI with NO PROBLEMS. And I could even switch sources through the device so I could go back to an HD feed! Through this feature, you have a variety of conversion options that would would litterally have to spend thousands of extra dollars to use.
Other than a few firmware issues when I first bought the device (which the AJA support staff helped solve IMMEDIATELY), the device has functioned flawlessly since (hence the reason I gave it 4 stars). But when you consider the quality you end up getting from the device, it's worth every penny!

Comments about AJA IoHD FireWire-800 Analog/Digital Capture Device with Apple ProRes 422:
I am not a fan of peripherals, and I do not like external devices. But the IO is necessary and there is nothing I know of with Apple Pro Res that comes close. The only improvement that comes to my mind that would be a plus is if there was the ability to use multiple Firewire 800 devices.

Comments about AJA IoHD FireWire-800 Analog/Digital Capture Device with Apple ProRes 422:
but you better be ready to reset your machine numerous times while working, and you have to make sure settings are correct for each different format otherwise it wont playback properly. It functions okay for most cutting but if you are cutting multicamera material its not fully functional when cutting more cameras than 4 at a time
