Two-way radios are powerful walkie-talkies that predominately operate on two frequency bands: Family Radio Service (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS.) This system makes it possible to put 2-way radios in the hands of the general public without a steep price tag.

The Motorola 8550R Talkabout Two-Way Radio has an 18 mile range, and also receives NOAA weather channels, offering coverage of all government-operated NOAA weather broadcasts, plus NOAA All Hazard Alert Radio.

Ten audible call tones grab the attention of other users before you start speaking; talk-confirmation tone signals you've finished talking. Also, the 8550R's keypad lock prevents your personalized settings from being inadvertently changed. This radio set comes with a RealTree AP HD camouflage patterned faceplate.

Voice activation (VOX) lets you talk hands-free when used with or without optional accessories
22 GMRS/FRS channels with 121 privacy codes
Talk-time up to approximately 11 hours (NiMH batteries) OR 32 hours (Alkaline batteries)

    charged overnight when i got these -hunted for a week they work very well for the money got an extra set for a couple buddies-held charge all day would put on cradle at night fully charged the next morning plan on buying another set

    I use these Talkabout radios to communicate with my staff on shoots when we are on different floors or buildings. Most walkies are to loud sometimes and interfere with A/V, but these walkies come with a mic and ear piece that work with a single push of the button and attach to my cloths. I can give directions and people quietly. It works great for me because I am usually wearing many hats during productions.
