The JVC GY-HD250U Professional HDV Camcorder is the ultimate version of JVC's ProHD camera, featuring HD-SDI, Timecode and Genlock connections. The initial version, the GY-HD100U was the first HDV camera to record true progressive images at 24 frames a second while maintaining a professional style ENG form factor. All previous features have been included in this model along with a wide array of extras that will increase overall usability.
One of the most notable improvements is the capability of recording 60 full progressive frames per second. Other features include a 14-bit A/D converter for increased picture quality, an enhanced DSP, an Anton Bauer Gold-Mount battery plate, enhanced cinema gammas for film-outs, and a built-in image flip function. Additionally, the camera can be converted into a studio camera by using the optional KA-HD250U studio adapter.
The GY-HD250U is a direct result of extensive research through user based feedback and is a testament to JVC's commitment to providing the most complete video cameras for professionals.

Comments about JVC GY-HD250U 1/3" 3-CCD Professional HDV Camcorder with 16x Fujinon Lens and 60/24-Frame Progressive Recording, includes Timecode, Genlock and HD-SDI Output:
I use this product in class with students. They use it for assignments. One of my students had issues capturing the footage. For some reason, every time she hooked up the camera to the computer, Adobe Premier Pro shut down. I'm not sure if it is the program or the camera.
So far, everything else is wonderful. The lens is excellent and the camera itself is a great tool to use. It has many advanced features. The anton bauer battery is a wonderful thing to use with it because of the long lasting charge on it.
I wish that the LCD was a bit bigger, but it is also a great screen.
I bought the camera after buying the updated version, the JVC 700u and prefer that one because of the big LCD screen, full HD settings, and ability to easily use and capture.
I would recommend this to someone only if they prefer shooting on MiniHDDV tape and are looking to save some money and get a quality camera.

I have four of these and use them in all kinds of situations - outdoors, studio config, handheld, tripod, jib, etc. I can say that for the price range, this camera is the best of the 1/3" CCD cameras. It is extremely versatile and has excellent video quality despite the heavily compressed codec.
Things I've noticed - 720p, whether in 24, 30, or 60 frames, looks better than the 1080i setting. I'm guessing this is due to the native 720p CCDs. Also, the HD-SDI output does not noticeably increase picture quality compared to the standard HDV capture, since this is still a 1/3" camera. The camera is also forgiving in poor lighting, but given the correct lighting, the video quality will rival cameras with a much higher price tag.
Just one last thing - although it is built well, the rubber cover used to cover the firewire port on one of the models I have has snapped off at the hinge. It's a bummer, but I figure nothing is completely without flaws.

I have used this Camera for all pro shoots. I use most of the Sony cameras too (F900R/730/Z1U) in a nutshell this machine blows most 1080i cameras out of the running even at the 50,000.00 range. Sony has been designing the same tank since the eighties...and who wants to carry a tank on their shoulder. I can shoot constantly with the GY250U and not get back aches. No one pays enough to ruin my back. If you buy the hard drive DTE-HD100 then you have the best work flow bar none! Imagine 2+ hours of footage put to Final Cut or Avid in 13 minutes, it always sings in post. And the 17x lense is great! Get the wide adapter though or you will need to get the wide angle lense. Most flexible camera I have used in years. If you are into technology and pushing the limits you will love this camera. If you have fear of tech you won't. The only Camera persons who have a hard time with this amazing flexible camera are those who fear change. Light Weight for Hard Hitters! [...] I prefer this Camera over any especially for travel.

This camera's picture is not inferior to broadcast camcorders.
While, price is incredibully inexpensive.
