When I first saw this product online, I thought, what a great idea. A CF reader in a compact USB reader. This is probably the most compact you can get with a CF reader. I was a little hesitant because of the brand because it wasn't a name brand but I decided to check it out anyways.
When I first tried it out, I had some problems. To test it out, I tried copying picture files from my computer to the CF card (because I didn't have any pictures on it). Copying was slow and eventually it stopped, stating various error messages. I wasn't too happy about that. When I put the card back in my camera (Olympus E-520), the card was write protected. I had to fiddle around with it and eventually format it in my camera in order to get the card working again.
Since I hate returning things, I decided to give it one more shot. I quickly took 937mb worth of pictures and tried transferring them to my computer. It worked just fine. The transfer speeds ranged from 1m 33s to 1m 46s for 937mb. (Why 937mb? It is approximately the space on my 4gb card [3.73gb] divided by 4. I wanted to know about how long it would take to transfer a full memory card to my computer [according my amateur testing, about 6-7 minutes])
I put the card back into my camera and it worked just fine.
All that said, this usb card reader is exactly what it states it is, a "card reader". It's not good for much else, but reading my CF card and putting pictures on my computer is pretty much all I need it to do.
Note: I've read in other reviews that the pins inside the reader are fragile, so be careful when inserting your CF card into the reader.

Works well on a PC - I used it on XP.
When I got a Macbook, I immediately had problems using this reader. Apple couldn't figure out a fix for it, and it gives permissions errors on both Tiger and Leopard. Won't let you fully transfer files to or from the card, and then you can't eject it so your files are corrupted when you pull it out.
Windows yes, Mac no.

I was a bit disappointed that the card reader didn't come with a cover of some sort to cover the USB end of things so it wouldn't get damaged while in my camera bag. Likewise, the opening where you insert you CF card is wide open and subject to the elements. Would be nice if they had a robber stopper of some sort to prevent it from getting junk in there. Mine was rendered useless after a couple days bouncing around in my camera bag. Better to spend a few more dollars and get someting more sturdy. Event a simple case would have been helpful.

This is one of the best compact card readers on the market, excluding the fact that the contact pins are poor and you have to be gentle or else they will bend slightly. They are easy to fix though if you do!

I travel and take a lot of pictures and needed a way to transfer the pictures to a notebook. This device allows me to transfer directly from the compact flash card without draining the camera battery. It is small enough that adding it to all the gear I carry is not a consideration.

This reader had performed flawlessly until it had failed after 3 months of light use. I did not have any issues with bent pins, the unit simply no longer recognizes any cards inserted into it. Tried to contact manufacturer for warranty information to no avail.

Comments about GGI CompactFlash Type I & II Memory Card Reader - USB 2.0:
Just purchased this reader and will return it on my next visit to B&H. I use a Mac and after inserting the card into my laptop's USB port, it's a hit or miss deal whether it shows up on my desktop or not. Sometimes it does, and sometimes it just doesn't work. Have to take the reader out of the port, resert it, go back and forth like this a few times until it finally does appear on the desktop. A total waste of time.
Also note: "cable" problem. One of the reasons I bought this reader was because there were no extra cables to get in the way. A direct link. Well, that also only works sometimes. It might work (as I said hit or miss) on your laptop USB port, but it definitely won't work at all if you try inserting it into a keyboard USB port. A window comes up saying you must insert it directly into a computer's USB port, not in an in-between port like a keyboard or non-powered hub. It's a "power" issue. So on my regular desktop computer, that means I'd have to use a cable connected to a back USB port on the computer and then connect the reader to that so I can access it. Defeats the whole idea of a "cableless" card reader doesn't it.
All and all, I'm going to spend a few bucks more and get something (a Lexar maybe) that works the way it should!

Works well but getting the alignment to insert the card can be a bit tricky. Convenient for backing-up photos to a laptop on the go. It is a little flimsy but construction is in line with the price; however, I would pay more for a tougher version.

Small and reasonable priced but seems to hold up nicely. Fast enough for most purposes. Hopefully the pins will handle the beating that my frequency of use will give them.
So far so good.

Mine broke after the third use. I tried to insert my CF card only to notice that it would not go in the reader. After careful inspection, I noticed that some of the pins inside were bent. This is not from misuse. I am very careful with everything that I own. However, my friend has the exact same one that I have used in the past and he has not had any problems with his for over a year.

Great product and it's pretty fast. The only disadvantage, there's no cover for the USB end or the CF card slot to protect the small prongs. So you have to be extra careful of where you store it.
