The Apple TV is an elegant and compact device that allows you to view content from your iTunes library on your television. It features integrated AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi to sync an iTunes library with its internal 160GB hard drive. The Apple TV can connect to any widescreen HDTV with component or HDMI input capabilities. It includes a standard analog stereo output as well as a digital optical connection for connection to a surround sound receiver.
The Apple TV features an interface that was designed with ease of use in mind. Similar in operation and appearance to Apple's popular Front Row application, it gives you intuitive access to movies, TV shows, music, podcasts and photos. The included remote control gives you control over all of this, plus the ability to adjust system settings. You'll also be able to stream trailers for the latest Hollywood blockbusters directly to your television from Apple's web site.
You can think of the Apple TV as an iPod for your living room. It automatically syncs with iTunes in the same seamless manner as Apple's ubiquitous portable media player, and can play any media format that an iPod will. The Apple TV is, overall, the easiest way to watch content from iTunes in the comfort of your living room.
- Download, Sync, Watch
- Using the Apple TV couldn't be easier. Start by downloading a movie from the iTunes store. The Apple TV syncs with your computer via AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi. Grab some snacks, fire up the TV and start watching: it's that easy.
- iTunes Integration
- The Apple TV's internal 160GB hard drive serves to hold a copy of your iTunes library. This gives you ready access to all of your digital media, even when your computer is powered down. Up to 200 hours of video, 36,000 songs or 25,000 photos can be stored on the hard drive.
- High-Def Movie Rentals
- The Apple TV puts the iTunes movie rental service at your fingertips. Both HD and SD rentals are available of new and classic catalog releases. Prices range from $2.99 to $4.99 per rental. Once you start watching a film, you'll have 24 hours to finish it before the rental expires. You can start watching the movie at any time within 30 days of renting.
- Multiple Library Support via Streaming
- What if you have multiple computers with iTunes in the house? Or if your library is over 160GB? Or if a friend is visiting with his MacBook and wants to watch a video from his library? The Apple TV is up to all of these tasks; it can wirelessly stream media from any number of iTunes libraries.
- YouTube on Your Tube

We've all been amazed at the vast library of free video clips that are available to watch on YouTube. Up until now you've been forced to watch these clips on a computer monitor; the Apple TV allows you to watch them on your HDTV. Do you want to watch Michael Jordan's shot over Craig Ehlo or another classic sports moment? Perhaps you have a craving to rewatch a classic TV commercial, such as the Apple "1984" Superbowl spot. There's a good chance that you can find it on YouTube.
YouTube support is not included in the current Apple TV firmware. Apple has stated that a mid-June software update will add the most current and popular YouTube videos. The full YouTube catalog will be on the Apple TV by Fall 2007.
- iPhoto and Adobe Photo Streaming
- Mac users will be able to stream photos from an iPhoto library to the Apple TV. Windows users who use Adobe Photoshop Elements or Adobe Album for photo organization will be able to do the same. This gives you an easy way to browse through your digital photo albums.
- HDTV Connectivity
- The Apple TV features standard output for widescreen HDTVs. These include component video, HDMI, RCA stereo audio and digital optical audio outputs. You'll even be able to transmit digital picture and sound over a single cable using HDMI. No cables are included with the Apple TV, allowing you to choose the right one for your television as an accessory.

I wanted to have a music player that would interface with my TV to select music much like the jukeboxes in restaurants and bars. Apple TV was the answer. With Apple TV and my wireless network I can go directly to the itunes store and buy music and movies (incl 720p HD) without using a separate PC. All the music (including music videos) are stored directly on the Apple TV. In the past I used my Apple Touch but wasn't happy as only videos could be seen on my tv. No music menus and graphics (ie album covers)could be seen. With Apple TV everyone in the room gets to see the lists of songs and the great graphics on my TV. In addition, on itunes there is free software called "touch" which when downloaded to a Apple Touch makes the unit into a WiFi remote that will control the Apple TV box. Now I can control my Apple TV from anywhere in my house. There are a few features that I wish the Apple TV had like sorting music by decade or year. Overall very satisfied with this product and my friends love it too!

However, what I really wanted it for was to stream music to my stereo from iTunes on my laptop. The wireless reception turns out to be very unreliable, worse than my cheaper airport express. If I would have known that I would have passed on the purchase of the Apple TV.

We have a large music collection (over 11,000 songs) and are also into photography, so the Apple TV is perfect for playing the music through our home theater system with the photos providing a great slideshow backdrop. The newer model of the Apple TV does not have a hard drive and everything must be streamed, so the 160GB model is actually better for our needs. No need to even turn on the computer with this model after syncing up your content.

At some point you realize you have tons of pictures and movies but they are all in your computer while you have these nice big tv's in your house. Apple TV takes care of that problem making it easy to share all your pictures, movies and music on your computer to your tv's. For you married guys, this is also the easiest way to convince your wife of getting that new lens or camera. She loves seeing what I make with my cameras. The screen saver mode is our favorite thing about the Apple TV. Seems like such a simple thing and there are many programs that do the same thing. However, the way the Apple TV randomly pulls family photos showing our kids growing up in various sizes is unique, even to how our mac computers do it. We'll sometimes just sit and watch our life go by while listening to music on the big screen.
I had the original 40gb Apple TV which is now in our bedroom. I added a ZVOX 525 to it and now movies and music sound much better in the bedroom without having a bunch of messy wires and components.

This was an upgrade from the 80gb model. I love controlling all my media via this simple interface and be able to download on the file. It works great on an LED flat panel and through a full speaker system...all via 1 usb cable.

This is simple to set up - you need WiFi and an HDMI cable and you're all set. What you get is a gateway to movies, tv shows, photos and all your iTunes music. It is fun to show all the features...it basically unlocks your music and photos from your computer. Highly recommend!

I live abroad (US military) and my only access to U.S. TV and movies is to download them on iTunes. Instant access and great HD quality feels like being back home. I wish it had more memory, but I'm sure that will come.

A very convenient way to download and store video, music, and pictures. It works much faster when connected directly to an Ethernet line rather than a wireless network, of course. I have had only one problem with a download, but Apple was good and fast about fixing the problem.

I use the Apple TV to watch movies & TV shows purchased form iTunes, as well as listening to music from my iTunes library, playing video & audio podcasts & watching video that I've imported into iTunes.
I find the picture quality to be very good to excellent; set up was very easy; & operation is intuitive.
I wish that the remote had more buttons on it, as it's simple design can sometimes make navigation a little cumbersome. I also wish that there was more free long form video content available through iTunes; & finally I wish that it would play all high quality digital video without having to go through the lengthy process of converting it to the iTunes video format.

I use the unit for both I-tunes integration and
downloading movies. It has both component and hdmi outputs for video. It also has left and right analog outputs as well as a digital optical
audio output. The only thing missing is a standard composite video output.

The picture quality is great. I love that I can rent HD movies from my home, no more waiting months for the movie that you want for rental! It was very easy to set up. I did use another download service, the picture quality was not good on a HDTV, the Apple TV looks like DVD quality, fills up the screen.
I love the screen saver, my photos, they look great on my HDTV.
