The CAB-COOL Cabinet Cooler from Middle Atlantic is a special fan unit designed to remove heat from your setup, thereby lowering the operating temperature of your equipment and extending its useful life. I purchased this product to resolve ventilation problems in a sealed cabinet containing home theater components. I needed a somewhat elegant solution since I had to install the fan in the back corner of the shelf where the television is located.
This fan housing fit like a glove in a 3" circular hole through 3/4" plywood. I just slipped the fan through the top, and it is secured by 4 screws.
The vent cover can be painted, but do not use "plastic primer" like I did - that just made a mess that was difficult to clean off the cover. Regular latex paint seems to work fine.
The thermostat/power assembly is well designed, and the fan only runs when necessary.
The only issue I have is its price. The fan is of good, not exceptional quality, although it is the easiest solution for closed cabinet ventilation I have been able to find.
