The COMP-COOL Cabinet Cooler from Middle Atlantic is a special fan unit designed to remove heat from components on open shelving, thereby lowering the operating temperature of your equipment and extending its useful life. The fan sits directly on top of equipment, drawing internal heat from the component and expelling it. This low-profile fan can also be mounted beneath equipment and special rubber discs designed to raise equipment height are included for such installations.
The fan on the unit is activated automatically when the temperature reaches 90° F and turns off automatically at 88° F. This unit is designed to operate with minimal noise output and has a sound rating of 19 dB.

Comments about Middle Atlantic COMP-COOL Cabinet Cooler:
I use this fan to cool a small cabinet that contains a cable modem and an Apple Time Capsule.
Not a lot of air is moved quickly.

Comments about Middle Atlantic COMP-COOL Cabinet Cooler:
I use this to keep my Sony receiver cool. It would get hot enough to fry an egg on before, but now it's barely warm to the touch. It's small, quiet, and effective. It works by drawing the hot air out of the top vent of your component and then blowing it away. Thus, it works best with a cabinent that has an opening for the exhaust. It turns itself on when the temp reaches 90 and turns off when it's 88, so there's no need to plug it into a component's switched outlet. They are sold singly or in a set of 3 that can be chained to work together off of just one plug.
You can tell this is a good product built to last because it comes with a 3 year warranty. If you have a component with a top vent that gets very hot like a receiver or a DVR, and you would like it to have a long life, I strongly recommend this product. Heat is the enemy of sensitive electronics.
