This is the tried-and-true, standard flash head of the Speedotron Black Line. Each 102 head is consistent in power output, and ease of reflector, flash tube, and model light change.
All Black Line light units utilize modular construction for easy storage and travel and are cabled with the new locking/quick-release power supply connector which is compatible with all older Black Line power supplies. A power supply for this flash head is required.

Comments about Speedotron 102 Lamphead with 11" Reflector:
The Speedotron 102 is a reliable light head for Speedotron power packs. It has fan cooling and a strong 250 watt modeling lamp. It's also nice that the flash tube is protected inside an integral clear or UV coated pyrex dome. This protects people from bursting tubes in their face as well as protecting the tube itself from damage.
The 11 inch reflector is sturdy and solid. It fits well too.
I did purchase a new head here with a fan that was a bit noisy when the head was tilted too far. This caused it to make a light ticking noise at times. I returned it for exchange to B&H. But, I have a few of these heads that are older and none of them have that problem.
Speedotron publishes the flash sync speeds of this head on it's website.
2400 Ws : 1/225 seconds
1200 Ws : 1/400 seconds
600 Ws : 1/670 seconds
These are alright speeds, but certainly not stellar. It would be poor for sports photography.
Also, these new heads come with a quick release cable plug which fits best onto a quick realease power supply outlet. It has a sliding sleeve and small bearings. I don't know whether they hold tightly onto older power supply screw head outlets. You might want to call Speedotron to check this. I think that old heads fit new power supplies, but the fit is not secure. If the cord gets kicked and unplugged while powered on it can arc over electricity.

Comments about Speedotron 102 Lamphead with 11" Reflector:
I'm professional portrait and conceptual photographer, I use a variety of lighting solutions from small shoe mount units to continuous light sources. The 102 is my favorite strobe setup to use simply because of it's reliability. I have several units that I bought used many years ago that still work flawlessly. There fan cooled, which makes any issues with heat nonexistent. Also, their mounting system for attachments is simple and secure. Can't get much better than them
