I use this for professional portraits and althought it's quite pricey, Wescott products are very well made. The black is dark and does not show up on the image. The white is bright enough to light in high-key portraits. I love collapsible backgrounds and for portability these can't be beat

This is a great product. I had the 5x6' background but I found it to be a bit small when taking photos of people. One star off because the white side could be brighter. Collapsing it is difficult at first but I got the hang of it after a while. It was frustrating because the video on the website does not do a good job of explaining how to do it. This is a simple and fast way to get great professional-looking photos. It's perfect for my small apartment. I put it up when I take photos but store it behind the couch when I'm not using it. Highly recommended gear.

I am an amateur photography and bought the product to take baby photos, and family photos. The only thing wrong with the backdrop is it really needs a stand on each side of it to keep it from curling around. Also I haven't figured out yet how to get the wrinkles out of it, especially on the white side.

The Masterpiece Collapsible Reversible Background 6x7' Black/White by Westcott is excellent. I used it this past Sunday 7.25.10 and with a 150 W Tungsten model light through a 4 foot soft box with an ISO of 2500 my portraits completely impressed me,
The black was a black I have not seen with my previous black canvas backdrop. I taped the back drop to the wall and when done it was easy to put the back drop away.
I think this back drop is great as I can also use the White side for a reflector as well for other uses.
To me this is a quality product and I look forward to use it outside for some of my street portraits because I can tape it to a wall.

This background was a life-saver on a recent photo shoot; the black side was thick enough to keep the sun from illuminating the white background.

Two drawbacks are:
a) if you hang this large piece on a Westcott background stand (or any stand with a single point of attachment,) the top edge sags noticeably, leaving some wrinkles in the fabric. It would be a great help if Westcott provided (or at least sold separately) a background hanging bar that would attach to a stand at one point but attach to the background in two to four places spaced along the top edge.
b) Yes, it is collapsible, but doing it single-handed invites changing parts of the black and/or white into dirt gray. You really need a helper for this. It would also help if there were three marks on the perimeter spaced at thirds; it would shorten the folding task if the first attempt created a loop of the correct size.

I use this portable background in homes where the walls or background are not pleasing. This background is easy to set up and is all that is promised.

When I first pulled the backdrop out of the bag I was overwhelmed by the Almond like chemical smell.
It was almost eyewatering!!! I hung it out outside for three days until the smell was gone. I have no idea what the cause was or what it was treated with, but now the smell is barely noticable when you put your face against it. I must say it is really well made, good stiching and overall constuction. The fabric is a bit thin, and you can see through it. When shooting,using it as a backdrop, the black comes out black. The white side however is not the brightest shade of white. I think this is due to the fact the the material is thin enough that some of the black comes through. Having said that, in a recent location shoot (head shots)the white looked quite nice in the photos. A nice change to the blinding bright white that you get in the studio. The result was a very,very light shade of gray(off white)which I was happy with for what I was doing. If you are after a bright white backdrop, this is not it.
