Comments about Speedotron M11 UV Lamphead with 7" Reflector:
Ugly brown paint. Reminds me of East German cars.
off the shelf components. No whiz bang features.
But the guy works, works very well. Feels reliable, like a well used hammer. I betcha this thing will still be around when I'm 6 feet under.
a bit pricey for what it is though, but what photo equipment isn't? You can live with most Speedotron equipment, nothing fancy but it works.
Comments about Speedotron M11 UV Lamphead with 7" Reflector:
The best thing about the M11 lamphead, is how many different light modification attachments that it is compatible with! From a standard 7 inch reflector, you can get a multitude of grids that change the angle of light projecting from it. For a small circle of light, the 7 inch snoot is great. Just about any size or type of umbrella works well at softening and spreading light. With an 11.5 inch diameter reflector, the lamphead throws the light with greater efficiency along with 3 different sizes of grids and a lightsox diffuser to soften the light output. If you plan on switching to the more expensive blackline series of lights, the attachments for the M11 are compatible or vice versa... as long as you don't mind the cosmetic brown and black painted parts clashing. Finally, you wont find as many light modifying parts for any other brand of lights then Speedotron.
Problems Encountered: The only problem I have ever had with lamphead is the long duration of the flash... not so good for stopping fast movements like water splashes or bullets.
