The Brother DSmobile 600 Portable Scanner is a powerful, compact and lightweight 600-dpi color scanner, which weighs only about 12 ounces and is smaller than a box of spaghetti.

This advanced technology sheet-feed scanner features a unique USB power/data interface, which avoids the need for a battery or an external power adapter. I bought this scanner so I could scan checks and add them to a donations database on my Mac.GOOD: The scanner can definitely scan documents at least as small as a personal check, and the scans came out clear enough for my purposes.NOT SO GOOD: Occasionally documents don't feed as smoothly as they should. I suspect this happens if they're slightly dog-eared.BAD: Even though the product brochure (PDF still available from Brother's web site, as of this writing - search Brother's web site for "DS600_Final Brochure") states that this scanner ships with PrestoPageManager 9 for the Mac, it does not. All it includes is a basic TWAIN driver. This means that each time you want to scan a document smaller than 8.5x11, you must manually adjust the scan size using the preview window - a real pain.I e-mailed Brother to ask about the PR/software inconsistency. They were apologetic, and they even went so far as to call me instead of just e-mailing, but they offered no remedy at all. I didn't have the heart to yell at the operator - she was trying to be nice - but I can't say that's good customer service.

It's time to stop devoting valuable space in life to paper. If you're tired of all the paper clutter in your life - this is the gadget that will help clean it up!
If you're not sure what to do with the papers, don't save them in a box, closet or drawer, just scan,save then shred!
Once I've gone through the paper, I'm moving on to old family photos.
I'm looking forward to a bit more space and a little more organization.
I think the scanner is great! So why only 4 stars?
The scanned images come out a bit crooked. Also the software - while it is easy to use, there isn't an organization method to it - or if there is I haven't figured out how it works.

Before buying this product, I read the reviews, and they were great. After buying and receiving this product, it didn't work. We called the company and they emailed us a "fix". We tried it, and it did not work. We called this morning, indicating that the product still didn't work, and they said that we could return it with $50!!! We said no; that was ludicrous, and we would be returning the scanner to B&H Photo. Don't buy this scanner!

This is perfect for simple, easy scanning. I keep it in the drawer with the computer battery and it is fabulous. Still not sure about the picture scanning, small pics end up with a black back ground but I didn't finish the directions and I may be missing something...I need to check it out better. Also, the carrying case should have enough room for the cord. I love it!

I have a big scanner with an automatic feeder in my office; I bought this one so that I can send a fax or scan a picture or document while on the road. I'm using it with a laptop running Windows 7, and it set up in minutes. It's small enough to keep in my laptop bag, and it's great that its powered by the USB port and doesn't require a separate power supply. For not having a document feed guide, it consistently feeds documents pretty straight, and the software has a "auto straighten" option that seems to help if it doesn't go in perfectly straight. I don't have a calibrated monitor or printer so I would have no idea how accurately it reproduces colors; but it looks fine to my untrained eye. Most of what I scan are documents in black and white and they come out great. I've recommended it already to friends in my same line of work who have a need to be able to scan documents and photos on the go.

The DSmobile 600 Portable Scanner works like a charm. Its user friendly and I am so happy I bought the scanner. The DSmobile 600 is light weight which makes it great to take along with you when you are on the go. When there is a problem you can call the company and they will help you out. The only recomendation I have is that they should provide a stonger case to store the Scanner this way if it falls its safe in case.
