The Manfrotto 055XDB Tripod Legs builds on the success of the 3011/3021 series, but has been redesigned to offer even better ergonomics of the leg-angle release mechanism. It can reach a maximum working height of 70" (178 cm), with a folded length of 24" (61 cm).
With less features than the 055XB or 055XBPRO and a simpler design, this model is about 0.5 lb lighter, and a more economical choice. It is ideal for use with 35mm and light medium format photographic cameras, and digital or conventional type video camcorders.

This is a good, basic, reliable tripod that is a good value for the price. I use this tripod for night photography, macro photography, landscapes, portraits and for other occasions when I do not need to carry the tripod all day. All the parts and hardware are high quality and the the wing nut leg locks will not jam if they get a bit of sand or grit in them (unlike the Gitzo twist locks). I have owned several Manfrotto tripods in the past:[...]The drawback of this tripod is that the aluminum legs are more prone to transmit vibration than carbon fiber legs, and the aluminum legs add about 1 lb. in weight as compared to a carbon fiber model with similar load capacity. However, this tripod costs less than 1/2 the price of the comparable Manfrotto carbon fiber model. I have a carbon fiber tripod that I use for travel and hiking, but I am very happy with the 055XDB for occasions when I need a sturdier tripod. I simply added an Acrotech head that weighs about 1 lbs less than the Really Right Stuff BH-55 head that I was considering and got a very stable support for a lot less money.

Already own two other Manfrotto tripods, so knew I was getting a great product. This tripod is tall enough to use without having to bend over much, and light enough to cart on a backpack all day. I didn't like the redesign of the leg locks. My other two have the flip lock, which is very easy to use. This one has twist knobs, which are going to be hard to use in cold weather, as they are already stiff to turn.

I use this for a Canon 7D for still photography as well as video. It is very nice to one piece of gear that covers all of my needs. It is sturdy, well built and easy to use. I don't think I realized that each leg is secured by a twist knob vs. just a quick release valve, and it is admittedly a little heavier than I thought, but still very easy to use and very portable.

Nice and tall, so for 6 foot people like myself I don't have to bend over the tripod.
Construction seems stable and sturdy - probably not as light as the 190 model. I've bought them for a school thinking that they should be able to take some abuse.
Twist tie style locks, not flaps if that matters to you.
The XDB model is the cheapest style - there's no bubble, but you're still getting a manfrotto product. I just wanted a step up from the cheap ones but still reasonable on the pocketbook.

i use this in a high school auditorium to record band & orchestra performances. it has great height when fully extended, so i am able to get above everyone's head without obstructions.
personally, i like this type of leg lock over the cam type.
it has a hook of sorts that you're supposed to use to hang a bag or accessories, but i would never do that. instead, i'd rather have a threaded hole to attach a lightweight lcd monitor.
it's a bit on the heavy side -- wouldnt want to lug this all over the place -- but the price and height were my main factors.

Very stable tripod, many like the weight of carbon fiber over aluminum, but for me personally the weight doesn't bother me, especially when you take into the account the price difference of carbon fiber versus aluminum legs. The wing nuts work well, i quite like them... i was a little anxious about them at first, but am happy so far... we'll have to see how they hold up down the road a ways..

This tripod is great with any video camera even DSLRs. Its a very sturdy tripod that you don't have to worry about tipping over. Its easy to balance using any tripod head. One of the best things about this tripod is that you can adjust the angle of the legs, so if you get caught in a tight spot each leg can extend to 90 degrees which is helpful when shooting in cars or on stairs and you cant place all three legs on the same level. The tripod is great for traveling, it folds up to about 2 feet, so I am able to strap it to my camera bag and carry it on the plane with me and stow it in the overhead compartment. This tripod always comes with me on vacation. I am extremely satisfied with this product and wouldn't go with any other brand than Manfrotto.

As a photography student this is a great tripod for a great price for someone just starting out. I use my tripod for almost every shoot and it never lets me down. It is well made, a little lighter than other Manfrotto's than I have used which is great. The only down side are the wing-nuts, you have to double check that they are tightened up or else the legs can shift. Otherwise a great buy.

What I like most about this tripod is the separate head and how smooth it is. During past videos I have made, it was always so difficult to get a smooth, jerk-free pan of an area. I do not have an issue at all with this product. It also adjusts to fit many different heights. The legs are sturdy and durable as well.
