Other than the obvious quality of the handle, which I fully expected, the REAL value is in the enhanced ability to do smooth, controlled pans and tilts. I use high-end Sony cams every week. Those cams are mounted on high-end studio quality tripods with (of course) two handles. I often wondered if my shooting with my personal cameras would benefit with better tirpod/camera control. Well, wonder no longer. If you have a video head that will support a second handle...wait no longer...go get that second handle!!!

Yup, it's a pan handle, and it works great on my 501HDV under a Canon XH-A1. With a Zoe-DVXL controller on one of the handles, I can control the camera without taking my hands off the grips or disturbing the camera.
One minor complaint: it's about a quarter inch shorter than the pan handle that came with the head. In practice, this isn't a big deal at all.

I bought my Bogen 501HDV tripod a long time ago and it has been superb. I recently purchased the Varizoom controller and found that it would be much easier to have a second pan handle to allow one hand for the rocker and one for steering. Luckily the 501HDV head allows for a lefty or righty therefore allowing a second handle!
It has proven to be one of the best purchases I have made!
