I have used Ultra for some years. They were cheaper than APC. They have all died a premature death and I replaced them with APC and had no breakdowns. They are worth the difference.

Comments about APC Back-UPS RS 1500VA LCD 120V:
I have had good luck with a APC rated at 550VA on my old PC. According to PowerChute (APC's utility), I had about 11 minutes of UPS runtime. When it was time for my new PC (Core i7, SSDs, GTX295) I went for APC, again. Due to the great pricing at B&H on these APC UPSs, I opted for the 1500VA over the 1300VA version. "Overkill!" thought I. But, no. Under partial load (~300W) the LCD indicated I only had 17 minutes of UPS runtime! So, this actually jibes pretty well with the APC estimates (about 5 minutes at full load).
In short, don't skimp on UPS capability. Buy more VA than you think you need! This RS series is the cat's pajamas, with great monitoring (via software or the LCD) and power conditioning features (Automatic Voltage Regulation - both trim and boost, as well as simulated sine wave A/C at 60Hz), so you can't go wrong for a high end system or perhaps two more modest web browsing systems.
The only negative I found was that the power supply cord for the UPS was not of the "low profile" variety, so it does need over 75mm of clearance from the outlet. Most of the other UPS devices I have from APC have a low profile A/C supply cord, with about 1/3 the depth requirement.

For a home office desktop environment, this is a great unit. Good combination of size and functionality. Good reporting features and does its job - as expected - during power failures. Use one on a PC system and one on a Mac system.

It does its job. Provides great back up. I use the USB cable for automated power down and have two of them, one dedicated to my workstation and one to my NAS. Love it. Great peace of mind.

Final Cur Pro user on a Mac Pro Quad-core with two Dell 27inch monitors and two LaCie 2TB drives. I lost power and forgot to save project. When power died, I managed to save and shutdown everything. This baby powered the computer, both monitors and both LaCie external drives for over two mins. Enough time to shut 'er down. I did not find out the cut off time. If I did not own this, I would have lost an entire days work. I now have "auto-save" engaged and very happy with APC purchase.

Comments about APC Back-UPS RS 1500VA LCD 120V:
This UPS has about a 12 minute run time for my 30" monitor, and my quad-core full tower.
I really like the info panel (which can be "muted" -- which means dark), and contains information like a load bar, estimated run time, and can cycle through other bits of information like current input voltage, current wattage draw, etc.
