The HA-NC250 headphones from JVC offer terrific sound quality and noise-cancelling capabilities in a lightweight and comfortable design. The adjustable, padded headband and cushioned earcups let you listen for hours with comfort. The memory foam ear cushions help to naturally block out external noises, and active noise-cancelling technology helps to reduce noise by up to 85%. The noise-cancelling feature works for hours on a single AAA battery. If desired, the headphones can be used without power as a normal set of headphones without noise-cancellation.
The headphones have 40mm neodymium drivers for high-quality sound reproduction with a wide frequency response. The single-sided cable can also be detached, allowing you to block out noise without music. The standard 3.5mm mini plug is compatible with a variety of devices, and 1/4" and airplane adapters are included so you can connect anywhere you like on the ground or in the air. The headphones fold flat to pack neatly into the included carrying case for convenient storage and travel.

use them at work (cube), while travelling, sometimes at homeGreat at cancelling out noise that is further away. Still ambiant noise audible i.e. conversations of colleagues though quite muted. Thus could be better at completely cancelling noise though I have no comparisson but [$] headphone tha claim to cancel noise and do not.I can hear a thumping, throbbing, vibration noise if there is no audio played cause by the NC system and I do not like that fact. It's irritating in my ear hence play anything music is best and once NC is turned on the sound become rich and base deeper. Great with Techno, Dance music i.e. iTunes radio. If you wear glasses you will feel the frame of your glasses after a while as the headphone squeeze your ears on them :-).Again greta headphones and [$] less than Bose which might be better at completely cancelling ambiant noise...I don't know as I have not tried them just yet. Also, no idea how good they are on a plane as I just got these and have not used them while flying. They are small enough to be easily stored and seem nicely constructed. Require one AAA battery within right ear piece.

I bought these for use on the plane while traveling. I have experience with the earlier model of Bose Quiet Comfort 15's and thought they were amazing. I didn't want to spend 300 dollars so I read reviews and opted for the JVCs for best all around features. I bought the JVCs for the strong reviews, detachable cord, over the ear style and semi hard carry case. The result is ok but not great. The audio sound seems imbalanced.. more on the right than left (or vice versa) and the noise canceling strength is not as good as the Bose and not as comfortable as my older Sony earbuds (Sony MDR-NC11 Fontopia). All in all if a friend asked me to recommend a pair of noise canceling and they didn't have a preference of over or in the ear then I would recommend the Sony MDR-NC11.

I'm using this product in the library, to block the whispering and in the subway.
Sound quality is very good.
Bad things: always need to be ready with spare battery, noise cancelling and sound quality drops without power.

The price of these may seem high to some. But they do the job when it comes to cancelling out that noise that you do not want to hear on the train or plane. They are good quality and are very compact and come with a case.

I use these headphones all the time, in the bus, plane, subway, working... It's my new addiction : silence !
The noise cancellation works well enough for me, we don't really hear lound noises anymore, basses to high enough frequencies are nearly completely deleted.
When you don't listen to music, you can unplug the jack and only keep the noise cancellation which is very nice for concentration. I have worn them for hours, and only got my ears a bit worm but no pain at anytime, it is very comfortable.
pocket seems quite robust, there are adapters for double socket in planes and for 6.25" jacks. Only the wire, about 1m long can be found a bit short, but I never had any pb with that, from my pocket or my desk it is always good.

I tested these headphones on a flight from the US to Switzerland. They kept their promise to cancel most of the airplane noise, so listening to the on-board entertainment was really enjoyable without having to turn on the volume. They are also really comfortable to wear during multiple hours. In my opinion great value for the money!

I used the headphone while flying back to Europe. Great sounds, very good canceling function. After 9 hours using it, I can say that my ears felt sore because of my glasses pressed on my head by the ear pads.
I had already one of previous generation more comfortable but less effective.
Good product.

Comments about JVC HA-NC250 Stereo Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
Bought these headphones specificly for a long flight. I wore them for 8 hours straight. Very pleased with the results. If you expect them to block 100% of the noise you will be disappointed. I don't think there is anything available that does that. However, just putting on the headphones reduced the noise considerably, just due to the solid construction and the good seal with the ear. Turning them on gets rid of background noises like fans, motors, etc. The constant humming type of noises are blocked almost completely. You can still hear talking a bit. Turning on the music blocks out pretty much any other noise. I turned my mp3 player down two clicks from where I normally use it with ear buds. On the plane I watched a movie and had the sound on the lowest setting of 5 volume adjustments. I could hear every word. With my earbuds I had to have the sound turn all the way up and still missed some of the quieter words, but the music was often too loud. What a difference. After the movie I put on some quiet music on my mp3 player and fell asleep. At the end of the flight I did not have that over tired headache from the airplane noise. I am very happy with my purchase.

Maybe I was expecting too much. I was disappointed with the noise canceling. I thought it would block out much more than it did. Not great for airline travel all it did was just slightly reduce the sounds.

I am a semi-pro sound engineer running live sound at my church and other local venues. At times I need to monitor a specific source and not have ambient sound interfering. These worked great. The sound from the bass amp was loud enough for me to feel, yet I could monitor a vocal or piano source clearly.
The noise cancelling works best at lower frequencies like the background sound of HVAC. I think they would work very well in airplanes. They do not totally cut out voices. At 1/3 the cost of Bose, I am very happy. I also like the ability to switch the noise cancelling off and use them as regular headphones. Excellent sound quality.

shop comparision of the Bose headphones and these are very similar in perfomance. Spent a peaceful transatlantic flight and they cut out most of the aircraft noise and allowed me to listen to music at a low volume level. The included airline plug did not fit the aircraft as it had 2 fat connectors versus the airline 1 fat 1 thin but even on a single input they performed well

I've tried these in a few locations and while they don't reduce office noise a tremendous amount, they were wonderful on the bus. I was at the back over the engine and the difference was amazing. I don't know if they boost the music when on, but it seems like it. Good product, great price, [...]

Comments about JVC HA-NC250 Stereo Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
I bought these in NYC before flying home to Sydney, Australia. Now that's long longhaul. I have a small head (I wear childrens' eye glasses) and these headphones fitted perfectly. The ear pads were comfortable for use over many hours - six to SFO, 14 to SYD. I slept for 10 hours straight over the Pacific and didn't hear a thing, not even the takeoff or dinner trolley. The battery lasted most, but not all, of the journey (I had a replacement in the storage container). I felt like I had travelled in business class by the time I landed in Sydney, even though it was actully in almost full cattle class.
These headphones are brilliant for smaller heads and ears - try before you buy. They really do cut down a huge amount of ambient noise, especially the higher frequencies. The sound reproduction is very clear and crisp, but I play soft, soothing music, no bass at all!

[...]I took the phones on an international flight and they performed well - good, clear sound and the canceling function worked fine. The only thing I can find negative is that my ears felt sore after an hour or two - the cups not soft enough to prevent a tight clinching on my ears.

Nice sounding headphones, however, enabling noise cancelling only seems to increase volume. Was a bit disappointed in actual noise cancelling. It did not cancel as much ambient noise as I was expecting. Still a good product for the price.
