Just received my Cullman 30 Nm. Wow for $xxx bucks this thing rocks. I have a D60 with a battery grip and an SB-800, with a 70-200mm f2.8 this thing is solid. Up down left/right its sweet.
I read a few reviews and they said upon receipt some of the control knobs were so tight that pliers had to be used to make adjustments. No problems at all with that issue. I was a little skeptical because of the price, that it would be a low quality head. Its still very new but I love it. Lets see how it does in time. I had a very lite weight Manfrotto which was very nice and light until I started working with some bigger/better lenses. It just would'nt hold. Nothing wrong with the Manfrotto, it was just out of its weight league. Thus far would definitely recommend and buy again. I have a hand/wrist strap which attaches to the bottom of the battery grip. A little vibration occured due to this, however, just unscrew and attach the ballhead to to battery grip and it is right on the money.

I gave this 3 stars because it would be a great ballhead for the photographer who's not concerned about weight.
I bought this along with a quick release attachment in hope's of building the perfect head at the perfect price... not so much. Together this rig was weighing in almost as much as my legs (yes there carbon).
As for function, this head works amazing. The very smooth moving large ball clamps down lock tight and the different size dials make them easy to tell apart without having to look for the pan. The friction control was also a surprisingly useful function to have.
All in all, this would be a very nice peace as long as your not having to carry it too far.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 30 Nm Ballhead:
This product doesn't seem that it would last very long. But that's ok. I don't expect more at this price. I did have to get my hands dirty to make it full functional. Some screw was stuck and I was almost convinced that I would return it. [...] So I opened the whole system up and fixed it. This item is smooth with lightweight lens (& I have a light camera: 50D) but once I attach my 50-200 f 2.8 IS II L, transition is no longer smooth. But being a perfectionist and I was looking for something better.Visiting San Luis Obispos for CA Photo Fest in a couple of days. Can't wait to check out RRS stuff.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 30 Nm Ballhead:
This thing is an absolute tank. I did not want to drop 300+ on a good tripod head so I settled for this after looking at reviews. I am thoroughly pleased. All movements are fluid and when things are locked, it is absolutely solid.
The only concern I'd have is that it is heavy, if weight is a concern.

Considering it's load capacity, smoothe function, and price, this is a great ball head. Combine it with one of the Giottos "Arca" style quick release assemblies (it installs in two minutes), and you have a fantastic set up for way under $200.00. The diameter of the base matches the Bogen/Manfrotto platform, so it looks great if you're using on one of these tripods. I've owned many ball heads, some costing over four times what this one does, so I know of what I speak. To sum it up, a great head at a great price.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 30 Nm Ballhead:
I bought this to replace a pistol grip ballhead that just won't hold my Canon EOS 40D. After reading numerous positive reviews on the 35 Nm, I decided to go with the 30 Nm and buy a separate quick release plate to mount on it; the 35 Nm was just physically bigger and heavier than I wanted to carry around.
The quality is great - the action is smooth and the finish is of high quality. This is a great ballhead for the value.
The clamp is very basic, but it works. I didn't use it for anything other than a couple of test shots, however, and quickly bought an Arca-Swiss compatible quick release clamp to replace it. All in all, I was able to put together a nice ballhead with QR clamp for less than half the price of the big-names, and the quality is fantastic - it is smooth and doesn't slip.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 30 Nm Ballhead:
I've had this head about six months and it works very well. It has a solid build, the tension knob gives you a nice sweet spot, and it can lock rock-solid if you want it to. I use it mainly for low-light long exposures, and occasionally for macro. I'm very happy with its performance. If you are looking for a good ball head without breaking the bank, this one qualifies.

Comments about Cullmann Magnesit 30 Nm Ballhead:
[...] Its CS like this that will keep me and many others coming back. What I did was create a very stable quick release head (arca-type) that more than covered my needs. What I used, was this head which supports 44lbs (30nM) in conjunction with the Giottos MH-658 Quick Release Assembly. The Giottos plate that was included I am using on my 70-200 f2.8 Tamaron with an occasional Tamaron 2x tele-converter mounted to my XSi (soon to be 7d I hope). I purchased another Giottos plate for mounting to the camera body for other lens. I tried the Acratech plate to begin with, but a really nice feature the Giottos has is the safety catch release. The Acratech was a nice plate but didnt work with the feature of the Giottos. What I ended up with was a Arca type system on a very stable head for around $200 with the additional plate. I have mounted this to [...]'s flashpoint F-1228 for a tripod setup less than 400. [...]So far this head is supporting my 70-200 very nicely. I am able to dial out any play easily in all components of the head unit. Ball is smooth, and tension and tighten knobs work as they should. Pan feature is smooth even with light tension. Weight is just about right for me of the whole setupFor the money its a great setup for a photo-enthusiast like myself!
