This machine was great for a few weeks then it pooped out and did not function anymore. I got zero help from the guide and now I have a worthless piece of equipment.

Not only is this vastly more expensive than it should be (Come on, a tiny B&W Scanner that costs more than a full sized color scanner?); Software support is ludicrous. They continue to sell this product, with Proprietary Software, even though that software is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 64 Bit WINDOWS! In other words, you can spend well over one Bill, for a useless paper weight. The company is not developing any 64 bit software or drivers, even though the problem is as old as Vista.Skip it, spend the money at [...] for a month, you'll have more productivity to show for it.

the personal 8 is portable, quick and reliable. the sync to MS Outlook works easily without any hassle. I scan a lot of cards and this just works. The software is easy to set up.

This is a useful way to keep your contact information and the concept is wonderful when it works well. I liked the web based backup feature but it would be better if it allowed a little more control of how it operates. I do not want to be reminded every time I open Cardscan software that I need to check every contact.
However, I found the product weak in the following areas:
Connection to Outlook is problematic and messy. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not -- the online help is basically useless to help fix this.
The OCR has a lot of problems with email addresses and so one has to "fix" each OCR attempt to get the right email address. It needs more training on this to have less problems with this. Even .com was misread very frequently.
The synchronization is also kind of sloppy and keeping the outlook address book and this one aligned is not a trivial task with the current quality of the software.
In all it is a nice to have but plan on spending a lot of time to make up for the above deficiencies. They should license better quality OCR software from others and use third part software for the core database engine.
I recommend with reservations.
