In my opinion, The TIVO is a far superior DVR than anything you can get from the satellite & cable companies.

This DVR recorder is just great. Easy to install, easy to use and fits in nicely with the rest of our electronic gadgetry. Even my wife loves it as it now gives her independence with TV programming. Great piece - the HD is also super.I waited too long to purchase this and I am glad I got it from B&H [...].Thank you all.

My 4 year old Tivo Series 2 was acting up, (image breakup, stuttering, etc.) and I wanted to get something to stream movies from Netflix. Debating between the options I went for this and boy, am I satisfied!
More storage space, the ability to record on one channel and watch another, AND stream from Netflix pushed it over the edge for me.
Great picture quality, easy set-up, and solid performance, (though I've only had it a month), all in all I think it was a good buy.

The HD TiVo was a gift I bought for my husband for his birthday (a selfish gift we both benefit from) and I must say it's soooo nice to not have TV run your life. The TiVo allows us to schedule "season passes" for all our favorite shows so we don't miss them nor have to plan our schedules around them. You have to get a cable card (or 2) from your cable provider and be SURE they register it ahead of time because we had to have them come out 3 times to get it right. Then you must wait for the TiVo to do a channel search which takes a while. The setup was relatively easy [...]Also, you'll want to get the TiVo wifi adapter too if you don't have a phone or internet line nearby. It has to connect online somehow to verify your subscription to TiVo service.

Easy to set up, except for the part where Cox Cable has to come to install the Cable Card - I can do that but not everyone can - but they didn't give me an option. TIVO works great but be advised the Cable Card may not - and it's not the fault of your cable company, it's where that card is made - some work, some don't. Mine did on the first try.

Aside for the initial boot up the tivo is faster than other dvrs. Ease of use and plentiful options with it's dvr to dvr transfers, you tubes, DLing of music videos, program suggestion, and much more. Also the remote is quite sensitive, you can hold it backwards and it will still work. Superior picture quality and if you want longer recording time you can select different recording qualities. There is no reason to buy any other DVR for cable or satellite. BTW, did I mention, you never have to watch a commercial again.

Great DVR, TiVo's operating system is very easy to use. The hard drive is a little to small for HD shows. I would recommend the MY BOOK DVR EXPANDER.

This is a great DVR for the price, and service costs the same/month that typical DVRs cable providers offer, yet is far superior. My only complaint is that only 20 hours of HD recording is limiting, but what do you want for the price?

Comments about TiVo DVR HD Digital Video Recorder:
I've had my TiVo for a month now, and am very impressed with the overall quality and the features. I was nervous before I bought it after reading some of the posts on the message boards regarding unresolved technical issues, but so far I haven't experienced any of them. It was a breeze to set up, and I was using it to it's full capabilities only 15 minutes after I opened up the box. It comes with a free week of service out of the box, so you don't need to worry about pre-purchasing service until after you take it out of the box and make sure it works for a few days. As far as features go, the online scheduling from your computer is excellent for browsing around and finding movies to watch (as you can just scan through all of the ones that are showing over the next few weeks and then click an option to make the TiVo record it). Also, the ability to pause live TV is great when you have to leave your tv for a few minutes, but still want to keep up with your show. Perhaps the most useful feature is one which is not enabled by default - the 30 second skip button. It's easy enough to find out how to do on google, and it allows you to instantly skip the next 30 seconds of playback - great for passing commercials. Another nice feature is that it records 30 minutes of tv in its buffer, so you can rewind at any time, or start recording even if you get a few minutes in to the show and capture the whole thing.
Anyway, in conclusion, I would recommend this product for anyone who watches TV. It's great on those days when there really isn't anything on TV, as you can just look through the shows you have recorded and watch one of those. Do yourself a favor and buy it!

I have owned a Tivo Series 2 for about 1 year, and it has performed flawlessly. I recently upgraded to the Tivo HD when I got a new TV. While I am generally pleased, it is not quite as trouble free as my Series 2.
After some difficulty getting the cable cards installed properly (which was in no way Tivo's fault), I got it up and running pretty easily. I have noted some stuttering of the picture while watching live TV. You can clear this by pausing the show for a second or two, and then starting to play again, to give it a small buffer.
Yesterday, it would not pause live TV. The show would start again about 2 seconds after pausing. This was fixed by restarting the Tivo, a process that takes about 5 minutes and interrupted the recording I was making at the time.
I really like being able to record 2 shows at once, or watching one channel while recording another. There are a few hiccups in the system, but none too serious.
