The Pentax Optio M40 Digital Camera produces images with an astounding 8.0 megapixel image quality, and is equipped with a 3X optical smc PENTAX lens (equivalent to a 36-108mm lens in 35mm format). It has an ultra-slim and stylish body with a fresh design, and is made from high quality aluminum alloys for impressive durability. It is also loaded with a host of impressive advanced features including Digital Shake Reduction, an Auto Macro feature, Face Recognition Auto Focus and Auto Exposure. Furthermore, the Optio M40 captures smooth, high-quality movies at 30 fps at a resolution of 640x480 pixels, which is comparable to movies taken with a camcorder.

• Ultra Thin Compact Design: The Optio M40 Digital Camera is comfortable to hold, very portable, and very fashionable. It is less than 1" thick and is made of a premium quality aluminum alloy for greater durability.

• 8.0 Megapixel Resolution: The Optio M40 captures outstanding image quality thanks to a 1/2.5-inch primary color 8.5 megapixel CCD combined with a high-performance ASIC image processor.

• Top Quality 3x Zoom Lens: The Optio M40 incorporates a high-performance 3x optical zoom lens to capture a variety of subjects - from landscape to snapshots and portraits - with perfect composition by means of effortless fingertip operation. Its six-element, five-group optics includes four aspherical lens elements to effectively compensate for image distortions and aberrations.

• Superb Autofocus System with Responsive Tracking AF: The TTL contrast detection autofocus system with 9-point multi auto focus, Spot-focus, Infinity landscape and Auto tracking focus provides for sharp images and focus flexibility for more creative shooting. When the tracking AF mode is selected, the focus frame continually follows the main subject as it moves around in the image field, ensuring sharp, crisp focus at the shutter release. This mode is automatically selected by the camera in the Sport, Pet and Kids shooting modes.

• Digital SR (Shake Reduction) Function: Using Digital SR reduces camera shakes and blurring of the subject when photographing still images. The sensitivity is adjusted automatically, to as high as ISO 3200, enabling photography with fast shutter speeds, and consequently less blur. Movie SR (Shake Reduction) is also included in the camera providing an electronic shake reduction function exclusively for capturing movies.

• Face Recognition AF & AE: The Optio M40 is equipped with a "Face Recognition AF & AE" function that automatically detects and focuses on faces, regardless of where the people appear in the photo frame. In addition, exposure settings are automatically adjusted to optimize for the faces, even if there is backlighting.

• VGA Movie Record: The high-quality extended movie feature of the Optio M40 captures QuickTime motion JPEG at up to VGA quality (640 x 480 @ 30fps), and can also record in 3 different compression ratios to maximized video recording capability.

• Simple, User-friendly Operation: In order to assure best results with minimal effort, the Optio M40 offers the convenient Green Mode, which automatically and instantly sets all image factors - including exposure, sensitivity and white balance - to optimum levels, with a single push of the green button on the back panel. Since this user-friendly mode eliminates complicated camera operations completely, it lets even first-time digital camera users take beautiful, high-quality images with minimal effort.

• Easy-to-use Shooting Modes: The Optio M40 features the Pentax-original mode palette system for smooth, effortless selection of shooting and playback modes. The shooting mode palette displays 15 easy-to-understand mode icons, while the playback mode palette offers eight. All the user has to do to set the desired mode is select the corresponding icon on the screen. The camera has an extended flash range up to 18 feet to illuminate your subject even when you can't get close, and there is also an Auto Macro mode that allows the M40 to automatically switch to the macro mode enabling the camera to focus down to 4 inches (10 cm).

• Outstanding Battery Life: Thanks to its comprehensive energy-saving design, and a compact high yield lithium battery, the Optio M40 provides exceptional battery life (approximately 230 images on a full charge).

• 2.5" Color LCD Display: Despite its compact dimensions, the Optio M40 features a large, low-reflection 2.5-inch color LCD monitor. Its auto LCD dimmer function automatically adjusts backlight brightness according to the incident-light level, making it possible for the user to view the screen comfortably, whether shooting in a dimly lit indoor setting or outdoors in the bright sun.

• Direct Print Capable: The Optio M40 supports PictBridge Direct Printing, so you can take advantage of simple, push-button printing of recorded images, without requiring a personal computer.
