Does everything I need it to...
I wasn't entirely sure of what to expect (as far as true quality) when I first bought this flash, but after having used it for several weeks now, I'm actually very pleased.
I wasn't entirely sure of what to expect (as far as true quality) when I first bought this flash, but after having used it for several weeks now, I'm actually very pleased.
This flash has a few small quirks I've noticed that can be slightly annoying, but nothing that would keep me from buying it a second time. My chief annoyance is that the back-lit control panel on my D80 sometimes lights up whenever I turn the flash on for the first time - no big problem, it turns itself off after a few seconds.
Battery life is good enough for most indoor photography I've done. I got just shy of 200 shots with one set of rechargables at my last gig - the max, according to the manual. Overall, the flash feels pretty "plasticy" and the hotshoe connector is made out of plastic, but as long as you're not throwing it at walls, it should serve well in my opinion. I especially liked the way that this flash swivels 330 degrees - almost all the way around so I can fire over both shoulders if I need to!
I needed something more powerful and versatile than my on-camera pop-up flash, and I found it for less than half as much as an SB-600! I'm happy.

Simple TTL flash. Plug and play. However, you can not accurately/manually control flash power (Full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc are not listed on the flash) There is no sync port on the side of the flash. Also no digital screen, just a sticky manual slider. Very cheap construction but the light weight could be an added bonus since my camera is very heavy. If you're looking for a basic flash to stick on the top of your camera and shoot auto with, no need to buy an $$$ brand name flash. However, this will soon become just a backup flash for me as soon as I can drop the $$$ for a true Nikon SB flash.

I bought this for my brother to use on his D40 in his photography class. The output seems a little weak. It is being used now primarily for fill light. The fit and finish appear to be reasonably good, given its cost. Overall, it is ok for small tasks, but I think a speedlight would be a better bet for heavy lifting, so to speak.

I am very happy with this flash. I needed something with budget in mind so I did my homework and saw on various web sites that this was a good product. My only complaint is that it is hard to use for weddings, kids and puppies. Reason being, it takes a while to charge the flash but I mean hey, for the price I cannot complain.

Got this product on a monday used it that saturday for senior portraits. The best thing about this product is you get more than what you pay for. I learned along time ago that the only way to make money is not to spend it. So when you can spend [$] dollars verses $500 that's great. It was easy to use right out of the box. It included easy to understand directions. I had no problem dialing in the right amount of flash with the slider. The full motion of the flash is also a great feature. We were able to really get some interesting shots under a train trusell with a bounce flash.Yes this thing is made of plastic all the way, but I believe it is just as durable as my Nikon 3100. And you can believe me I have no plans of droping niether.I have thought and thought about any cons I could list, but i don't have any at this time. It does every thing I need it to do. What more can you want.

I needed something for studio lighting with my diffusers and these don't quite pump out the light i was hoping for, also without a output control you never know what you're gonna get.

I needed a dedicated Flash for my new D3100 and I needed a affordable price. This was perfect for my needs. I actually like this better than my Nikon SB-800 Flash. It was a fraction of that flash. I still needed a soft box because it had no light diffuser. It takes 4 double AA batteries and I just use standard ones. They heat up pretty quickly when shooting a lot of shots. But one night of work I replaced once. that was about 400 shots.

Purchased to use with my D40/D90 that I allow my students to use. Good flash and made a huge difference at the last sporting event we covered. My major complaint is the AA batteries... would like a rechargable pack.

I am completely satisfied with this flash. It is easy to attach, easy to adjust and keeps up just fine with my trigger happy self. I imagine it may not be the best product out there but I have little to judge it against. So far I am completely happy with my new flash. If you are looking for a low cost external flash this works perfectly well.

I never could get it to work with the batteries I installed I then put in a 2nd batch of batteries and it still didn't work. I then went to store and looked at a reasonable flash and put in the same batteried I used before and that flash worked. I didn't buy it because it really wasn't that good of a flash .

I wanted an affordable shoe-mount flash as i am just getting into photography and there is so much equipment to accumulate. This has been a really great investment thus far. Bounce your flash off the white sealing or any other reflective surface and eliminate the "flash" look from your flash photos.

I must say I was a little nervous about this flash. But it works great. Now I'm not saying it's as good as a nikon flash, but for the money it does the job for me. I like that you can move the flash head from left to right, and up and down. Lets you bounce it off any walls. Only thing i dislike is the high pitch noise it makes. It's not awful just enough to get on your nerves after a while.

Before 200 shoots the flash loose output power. I don´t know if its a particular problem or it´s about the resistace of the lamp. I own a SFD35C and its working well mounted on my nikon. Thanks good both brand support the hot shoe standar.
However it´s a nice deal if you dont have a unit whit this problem.

It is an ok flash. It has a high pitched sound that is extremely annoying especially when you are trying to be quiet. If you can afford to get the sb600 or sb800 it is worth the extra cash. This would be a good back-up or for amateur use.

The only thing that I disliked was the fact that it takes batteries, however, I used it for 9 hours without having to change them. Overall a great product!
