RME has a desktop/portable, computer audio system they call the HDSP System, which consists of either a PCI card, or a CardBus interface, coupled with an external input/output interface. Together, the two components provide a professional quality DAW that can operate on either a desktop or a laptop computer.
The HDSPe PCI Card is the desktop computer component of the system and allows communication between the input/out interface and the software on the computer. It is based on the Hammerfall PCI core with zero CPU load technology, optimized for high performance.
Up to a 250MB/s transfer rate allows for maximum audio performance in both directions. Additionally the card is fully "plug and play" compatible under Windows and Mac OS. The PCI card and I/O box are connected using a supplied 6-pin FireWire cable. The fifteen foot cable transfers the power necessary for the attached I/O-box.
Note! To make a complete system, an optional I/O box, such as the Digiface, Multiface, Multiface II or RPM needs to be purchased.
