I called Smartdisk/Verbatim and asked, they said the photobank has a 2gb card limit, but my 4gb microdrive works well in th photobank. Plus, it's a really nifty portable hard drive to carry around too, nice when a computer can't push enough juice to power the drive, this sucker just lives on the battery.

I like the SmartDisk PhotoBank. Yes, it is very slow to copy files - a 2GB card will take 5-8 minutes - but it is simple to use and works well. When it is working. Over the last year, I have had three of these die on me. While SmartDisk promptly sent me new ones the first two times (the last one was out of warranty), the quality problems defeat the purpose of this product. Fortunately I just use the PhotoBank to back up my cards until I can get home and put the files on my computer. If one were to use this as their primary storage device while out in the field, the results could be horrible.

This product is fast, portable and reliable. It made me realize I truly don't need a storage device that will cost a couple hundred more dollars just to show me the pictures I could view from my camera. They are appealing but this is a far better buy.

Comments about SmartDisk PhotoBank, 80GB, Stand Alone Data Storage Device:
I get a little nervous when I have about $3000 worth of images on 4 flash cards. Anything can happen to them on the way home. Bringing a laptop is too cumbersome and impractical while on assignment. In comes the PhotoBank. I can carry it in my pockets and file back-up is only a few minutes away. It provides me with the desperately needed peace of mind, knowing that my images are in 2 different locations.
I primarily shoot weddings and events and in today's digital world, lost files mean lost business. This baby is so easy to use. I simply insert the flash card and the data is transferred easily. A 1G card takes about 4 minutes. I bring the charger along, just in case. Buy a second one for good measure.
Only problem is that you can't actually see the images. That's asking a bit much for something so modestly priced.

I do extensive amateur/professional landscape photography and need something portable and most of all dependable. Simplicity is the word here. And thats just what I've found in this 80GB storage/reader from SmartDisk. It does what it's
supposed to and is RELIABLE! Its the first line of storage for my important digital work and I can't ask for anything more. Thanks SmartDisk....

I have had nothing but problems with this thing since I bought it. It has NEVER worked with my SDHC cards. It works fine with my gigantic Cannon CF card.
I'm so completely frustrated with it that it just takes up space in my home. It's a very expensive dust collector.

Comments about SmartDisk PhotoBank, 80GB, Stand Alone Data Storage Device:
I purchased this product to take on vacation as a back-up of vacation memory cards. After a friend had her camera stolen with the memory cards, I wanted back-up. I only recently purchased this, so my experience is limited (no vacation as yet), but I easily copied my memory card to the unit, from the unit to my computer and uploaded photos for quick printing. Very pleased so far!
Comments about SmartDisk PhotoBank, 80GB, Stand Alone Data Storage Device:
This product eliminates the need to buy extra memory cardsor to carry a bulky notebook computer while on trips, vacation, traveling, and any time where there is a need formany highest quality photos. And because it runs on eitherbattery or AC power, I can use it in the field to takeadvantage of the need to take many photographs. I don'tneed to decide which photos to delete any longer, since Iwon't have to worry about space on memory cards. I highlyrecommend this product.
Expertise: Moderately good knowledge of technology and related devices.
Problems Encountered: No problems so far. The on/off button can be accidentallyturned on when slipping the unit into the storage casethat comes with it. A slide switch would have been a betterdesign.
Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Nothing.
