I previously had an A540, and it gave me a lot of great pictures. Unfortunately it died. The A720 is a huge step up both in features and in picture quality. The quality of the pictures is amazingly good for the size and price. The face detection feature worked like a charm even on crowded places to up to 6 faces at a time. The 6X zoom gives awsome performance, and the image stabilization helps a lot. The manual settings are just perfect if you are into more advanced photography. Low light operation is only good if you play with the manual controls. Your average birthday party will not be a problem with the flash.
The size of the camera isn't great, since it doesn't fit in a pocket, but I already knew that. Other than that I have no other complains.

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:
I have had the A 720 for several months, and I am really excited to find a mostly high quality
insturment so cheap. The Quality of pictures is very high. It suprises me how capable the technology of the A 720IS is, and how simple it is to access it. I am as much dismayed by the shotcomings as they are mostly irritants.
The two irritants I found using the A 720IS were the power consumption, and recycle time of the flash. I am on my third "A" series Canon camera, and the comsumption problems seemed to begin when Canon reduced the the battery capacity from four AA to two AA cells. I hope they (Canon) try again.
In conclusion, Great camera that delivers much more than expection.

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:
I needed a Point & Shoot which will be easy enough to use for my wife, yet with full manual control for my photographic experience. And that's exactly what it is. I am saving for a Canon 40D, but for now, this one allows me to be as creative as I want. Some cool things about it are: Face detection, Image stabilizer, 6x optical zoom (for under [$]) and in full manual mode, the ability to control the intensity of the flash (that's awesome!)Another advantage is the use of only 2 AA batteries, which is amazing for a camera with a zoom more than 4x optical.

Bought this camera mainly for my dad to use. He's 82 and has no trouble with it. He can take great snapshots around the house and yard and he just loves it.

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:
So far I have used only simple/automatic features. But the operation is same as my older A95. Therefore I could use it out of the box. Size is same as A95, but it is two AA batteries lighter. Some of my photos were not sharp focus. I don't know if it was my fault or the camera's.

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:
I've only had this camera for about three weeks and haven't shot a ton with it, but it was simple to get started with, easy to work with, and the manual couldn't be a whole lot clearer on most topics. If there is a flaw to the camera, I haven't found it yet.

My spouce and I have recently had a baby and wanted to have a top of the line camera. So, why not pick one of the leaders in the camera world, and the PowerShot A720 is great. It has so many features we can get a great picture whatever the conditions may be. The only complaint I have is that it didn't come with a carrying case.

Pros: Broad feature set, easy to hold and use, lots of easy to see camera settings info that enlarge when it first pop up; good image stabilization; very nice results-- good looking pictures, still has an optical view finder
Cons: Screen flat with back of camera not recessed at all making it prone to scratching when you lay it down; "Erase All" option buried too deeply in menu

Comments about Canon Powershot A720 IS Digital Camera:
I bought this camera right before a family trip to the beach as a replacement for an older model digital camera. It arrived expeditiously overnight as specified! The camera has preformed flawlessly for our family. Not only is it easy to use but fun. Friends comment on the excellent quality of the pictures. My sister is planning on purchasing one too. I particularly enjoy the easy to use dial settings, the big LCD panel, 6x lens and the short lag time.

Unlike most point & shoot cameras, it has a built-in optical viewfinder, a must for me. The camera has almost all the features I would expect on an SLR; I feel very comfortable with it. This camera is of semi-professional back-up quality. Buy the kit.

I'm just learning how to use digital cameras. Even in automatic mode, the photos are great. Stitch assist was fun to use on vacation. Even the owners manual has a start up section to get you using your camera before learning how and when you might use all of its other shooting modes.

Camera is used on a service truck to document damage in the electrical maintenance field.
It uses AA batteries which is handy in the field.
On previous models, the lens cover would stick closed when you turn on the camera. This seems to have been resolved on this model.

I have been using camera outdoors for photos of plants and flowers. I find it versatile and image stabilization very effective. The images are sharp and the 6x tele provides flexibility.
Not so good: LCD screen hard to see in bright light. Optical viewfinder important but somewhat inacurate.
Overall a pleasure to use. I think I could get quite attached to this baby.
