This camera only has the LCD on the back. But for my use that is fine. I liked the zoom and was impressed with the 40x digital zoom. I have used almost all the options. I like the auto ISO and the IS works very well. The camera is a little larger than the A Series cameras I also have 550, 570is and 590is. It seems faster than the 590is. The movies are very good quality.

This is a great point & shoot camera. I'm a professional photographer and purchased this as a gift for my sister who lives out in a very rural area of Montana where there are lots of large, furry animals. I wanted to get her something easier to use than my Nikon D700 but something that had a good telephoto and image stabilization on it too.
I had the camera shipped to me so I could make sure it would work well for her needs. I have to say I was impressed. The image quality was good, even when the full zoom was implemented. It works great on full automatic mode but I also like it's manual override capabilities.
The bottom line is she loves it and has sent me several photos of a Grizzly sow and her two cubs and it looked like she was closer than I would have been comfortable with. For the price of this camera I think I made the right choice for her. I kind of wish I had one to keep in my car glove box all the time.

Just returned from Yellowstone National park and had our first chance to see the quality of our pictures on our computer screen. Really impressive. This camera had many more options than I thought allowing us to be very flexible in shot composition and lighting.
Only one recommendation. The manual could be better written. Having purchased a Canon camera in the past, I note that that camera came with 2 manuals-one that gave a good basic description of the camera and operations-and a more detailed manual with more specifics. This camera came with one manual which was not especially well written.

Great photos, especially daytime ones. In shade conditions, color corrections are a little tricky, but can be fixed after download. 10X mag is great, except holding it steady can be tough (image stabilization helps, but doesn't fully resolve shaky hands!).
Far less chunky than other mega-zooms, but don't expect to slip it into your pocket.

This camera is compact, lightweight and extremely user friendly. if you are afraid of machines, or clumsy/accident prone, this product is not a bit initimidating and can take a hit. it's only drawback is that it is not waterproof. The zoom is incredible and image stabilizer makes this a perfect camera for a weekend warrior, while offering versatility in its features to please more conservative bookish shutterbugs. A plus.

Very handy camera, lots of options to take photos or video, the 10x optical zoom is exceptional in the category. Fits to the pocket, as well, hence can easily be used for travel or any fun event. The only downside is the lack of viewer, having an LCD only may take your battery down quickly and may prevent taking photos at heavy sunshine.

I really like this camera because it takes good quality pictures and has some nice features. My only complaint is that it doesn't have the feature where you can take a picture of a color and in the next picture you take only that color will show up. This feature is found in cheaper Canon powershot cameras and I think it would be cool if this camera had it as well. As someone who just casually uses the camera, I love it. It has some very nice features (like taking pictures in different settings..example: landscape, nighttime, kids & pets, beach, aquarium, fireworks etc.) but it is not too confusing for someone who is new to photography. I highly recommend this camera.

My friend and sister were looking for something that is less bulky, has good zoom (this has 10x), and has many functions like face detection, different point & shoot modes.
This seemed to be ideal as they wouldn't like to carry SLRs which are much more bulkier.
I would recommend this to someone who is aspiring to own a SLR but wants to get started with the basics on a SLR-LIKE camera.

This is an excellent Camera. With it's 10x zoom, It's a good "step up" from the regular compact. It is durable, and has decent battery life. Good quality screen, and the pictures come out gorgeous. Canon camera's always have the best vibrant colors. The video quality at night is passable, but will need external light. I suggest getting a good 8 gig card and enjoy movies recorded at high quality for hours.

So far I'm very impressed with this camera. The 10X zoom is fantastic! I've been getting great shot without a tripod.
It has quite a few features that my old digital didn't have, manual settings, ISO, etc. I haven't quite got them all figured out yet but looking forward to what I can do with it when I do.

I use the PowerShot SX 100 for family gatherings and special events. As a firefighter I carry this camera with me for those pictures that need to be taken in a split moment. At a fire scene the action changes constantly and I need a reliable camera for this. I love how quickly the camera turns on. The viewing screen is bright and easy to see. It is light weight and when the lens retracts is easy to store. I am concerned about the lens membrane that covers the lens. I would prefer a snap on cap which I believe would offer better protection. Other than that I love the use of this camera.
