- Incredible 10x Optical Zoom Lens
- The PowerShot SX100 IS has an incredible 10x optical zoom lens which provides a 35mm focal range equivalent of 36 - 360mm and helps to bring your subject closer with razor-sharp precision and stunning lifelike color. In addition, the camera is equipped with a 4x digital zoom, which combined with the optical zoom provides an incredible 40x total zoom range for capturing even the smallest details of your subject.
- Optical Image Stabilizer
- Canon's lens shift-type optical image stabilizer counteracts the camera shake caused by slight hand movements. Vibration sensors detect the angle and speed of movement and send this information to a processor, allowing the camera to compensate. This adds stability to hand-held, telephoto or moving shots and enables shooting at shutter speeds of up to three stops slower than typical with no noticeable increase in image blur.
- DIGIC III Image Processor with iSAPS Technology
- Canon's DIGIC III Image Processor is designed to improve processing speed and image quality, so DIGIC III provides markedly faster startup, autofocus and playback, plus it assures that every image is more colorfully vibrant. iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.
- Face Detection Technology
- The DIGIC III processor in the PowerShot SX100 IS features Face Detection AF/AE, which finds multiple faces in the frame and sets the most suitable focus point when the shutter button is pressed halfway. In addition, Face Detection FE adjusts the flash based on a person's face on the screen, eliminating the common problem of darkened or overexposed faces. Furthermore, the Face Selector AF enables you to lock on and follow a specific face. Simply press the Face Selector Button; then the selected face is double-framed and tracked when the face moves in the frame.

- Red-eye Correction detects and automatically corrects red-eye during playback for both regular and flash photography. In unusual cases where red-eye is not automatically detected, it can easily be corrected manually during playback mode.

- The PowerShot SX100 IS Digital ELPH features ISO 1600 and High ISO Auto settings that reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpen subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater flexibility for shooting.

Just had my first little girl and wanted something smaller to carry around than my D80. Fits good in my hand and feels sturdy and firm enough. Got mostly for the video which seems to be fine. Low light is not a good thing for this camera, but that is normal for most point and shoots. Use mostly for the video and have not been disapointed except in low light.

I'm somewhat of a novice with digital cameras but this one came to me immediately. I honestly, did not use the manual. Maybe for one thing, to be perfectly truthful. But this camera handles easily and the pictures are terrific. I love the 10x zoom as I travel a lot. I have small hands and it fits beautifully and I am not clumbsy with it. I was recently in South Africa and met 2 people on separate occasions that have this camera and love it. That's what made me buy it and they were right. I love it! so far no complaints but I don't expect any.

Just purchased this camera and love it! I all ready notice a difference in the quality of my photos. It has great options for special scene modes that are not a hassle to change on a moments notice to capture great subjects and memories. Looking forward to using beach mode on vacation! Great for those upgrading from a basic point and shoot wanting to explore advanced digital photography!

Problems Encountered: Just a little hard to get use to the weight of this camera, but only due to the fact that my previous point and shoot digital was compact.Something I don't mind but many consumers might- it takes AA batteries. (I like it because i can get batteries practically anywhere vs buying numerous expensive lithium ion batteries to keep charged and on hand)
