I needed a good microphone for my JVC GR-DV500US. After really taking a look at the videos I've shot over the years on it, I came to realize just how awful the on-board mic is on the camcorder. It has a mic input which is a godsend on any camcorder, so I figured I might as well finally put it to good use. The problem was deciding which kind of mic I needed. I decided to go with a stereo mic since I found out shotguns were mono sound. I am by no means a pro, just an enthusiast looking to shoot good video. Price was another problem. I got some serious sticker shock seeing how much camcorder mics go for.
After months of research, I finally came across this particular mic. It didn't seem too large, it had a metal body, and the price was more than reasonable. But how was the sound? I wound up finding an electronics test site that had a video review of the mic and I was impressed by the sound quality and the reduction of background noise in the review. I decided to run over to B&H and grab the mic. I also got a Bescor VB-50 bracket so I had setup for the mic and my video light. I shot some footage in midtown Manhattan after Sunday mass on Easter along Park Avenue and in a little park across the street from Macy's. The sound was a major step up to say the least. Depsite the usual hustle and bustle of NYC streets, the sounds were a lot clearer and the annoying background noise was greatly reduced. Overall, this is a very good microphone if you want to improve the sound in your videos.

This mic is small and fits the 5D Mark II perfectly; but the audio leaves something to be desired. While the stereo sound quality is superior to the built-in mono mic, this mic forces the 5D to record sound at a very high gain level - thus there is a constant 'hiss' in the audio. Without the ability to control levels in the 5D, I'm not sure this is the best choise.

I returned this within 24 hours. It's gain was barely audible -- much less than the on-camera mic.

I found this mic to be a nice alternative to my "B" camera's on-board mic. Audio-Technica's line of microphones always exceed my expectations in both sound quality and value.

The mike was not as good as my internal one in my D7000. I immediately returned it. Even with menu gain on max it was hardly audible.

After installing this Microphone and recording one musical event, I was delighted by the sound clarity and extended range when compared to my camcorders integrated microphone.

I bought this for my Canon 7D. I was really hoping that it would eliminate or at least reduce the hiss when compared to the onboard mic. No dice. It does improve the sound a bit but it isn't really worth the hassle. Granted it didn't cost much. Makes me wonder if the Rode mic is that much better at twice the price. If so - I will get one today. It does not pick up sound too far away unless it is really loud. Even with normal conversations you need to strain to hear them. I was planning on using it for my kids band concerts and such. But since they are usually so loud I doubt this mic would improve the recording vs. the onboard mic. Really can't recommend it. I really wanted to like it as it is a great size and compact to slip in the camera bag. Instead it is going back.

I bought this mic to use for film school projects. I have a fairly low grade, basic camcorder and I picked up this mic to be able to use the camera as an audio deck. Even though my camcorder doesn't have a display for audio levels, I was nervous while taping, the audio sounded good. I shot outdoors at a protest rally and was able to get a great ambient sound as well as focused sound for interviews, with no wind noise. I'm not an audio professional, but this microphone does exactly what I need it to do, record clean sound for my media work. As a student, the price was right for me.
There is no battery level indication on this mic which would be nice.

This microphone was recommended by a friend who knows audio equipment better than I do, and after my first experience with it recording a room full of young kids at a birthday party, all is well. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I'm not qualified to know if it's the best under the most demanding circumstances.

There is no comparison to the mic in my canon 5d. The Pro-24mc min pic up sound from 20 feet away, even with a slight breeze. I was really impressed with the quality of sound as well.

I used this mic for a 10 day trip to Europe. It is very good and it filters out a lot of environmental noise. The sound quality is better then the expensive Rode mic I purchased previously. The only drawback is that it does not have a battery indicator and I did not know the battery ran out until it happens.
Anyhow, I still will use it for my travel because it is easy to use and it is easy to carry.

Comments about Audio-Technica Pro-24CM - Stereo Microphone:
Mounted it on my Canon 7D and it eliminated not only the wind noise but all of the other distracting sounds such as motor noise, zoom noise and general holding the camera sounds. Acts like a microphone that is a least 3X more expensive. The cord was a little annoying at first until I looped it on the left front of the camera problem solved.

Comments about Audio-Technica Pro-24CM - Stereo Microphone:
Both L and R channels exhibited an extremely high noise floor. I called for factory support twice and received a recording promising that someone would call me back. They never called.
I purchased a competitive microphone for $1.00 less that worked great.
I'm very disappointed in A-T because I have used their headphones for many years. Time to consider alternate sources!

so far I've only tested the mic on my little canon ZR 800 camcorder. I'll be using it as backup for a shoot next week. The built in mics on ZR 800 give a somewhat louder but certanly thiner playback. I'll take quality over quantity any time. The quality of the pouch was more than I expected. Is this the best mic in it's price range? probably. Is it pro-level? probably not. Am I happy with my purchase? Yes, so far.

I use this with a Canon H-20. Its's super portable and has great pickup for it's size. Tucks nicely into a small camera bag. My school's telecommunications department bought a bunch of these for student use too. Reliable so far.

I am using this mic for videorecording on my Nikon D7000, and I am very satisfied with the results.
I get good stereo sound, and the AF noise from my Nikon AF-S 35 are elliminated.
Only thing i missed is "angular switch" to choose between directional and wide, like my older Sony mic has.
Great value for the money.

I use this mic to record our band practice sessions. I am the drummer and I use the recordings to practice between rehearsals and to try different beats and fillers. Other members use them as well. It is lightweight and works amazingly well when plugged into my digital recorder. I would prefer that it not use a battery, but in my case, one is necessary. Overall, this is a super little microphone and produces almost CD quality recordings.

I use this great little mic in conjuction with my Kodak Zi8 with both units mounted on a Bescor VB-50 UNIV SHOE MT ADAPTER KIT - BEVB50.
This set up is small and fantastic. If you are looking for a good stereo microphone to add onto your camera this is a great one to start with.

Comments about Audio-Technica Pro-24CM - Stereo Microphone:
I use this on my Nikon D7000. I like AT mikes and this one is very competent. The size is good for a DSLR. The reason I gave it 4 stars is that the sensitivity is somewhat less than the on-board mike, but works fine if audio input is set to max (setting level 3). The stereo effect is best when used close.
