The Epson Stylus Pro 9880 Large-Format Printer incorporates a durable, 44-inch wide printer engine design and uses UltraChrome K3 ink technology - now enhanced with Epson's breakthrough Vivid Magenta pigments - to produce archival prints with amazing color accuracy, gloss level, and scratch resistance; all while providing consistently stable colors that significantly outperforms other professional printers. Furthermore, the use of three levels of black ink provides neutral or toned black-and-white prints with impressively high density levels and virtually no metamerism or bronzing.
With an even higher level of ink droplet accuracy than found on previous Epson printer models, the MicroPiezo AMC print head has been enhanced with an exclusive ink repelling coating technology to dramatically reduce nozzle clogging. And, when combined with the Epson AccuPhoto HD screening technology you'll be able to print with at an astonishing resolution of 2880 x 1440 dpi, and obtain extremely accurate fine color blends and photographic transitions.
Capable of handling virtually any media type, in roll or cut-sheet, up to 44-inches wide, the Epson Stylus Pro 9880 sets the standard for professional media use. It also incorporates a front-loading, straight-through path capable of handling fine art paper and heavyweight media up to 1.5mm thick. Whether you're producing sellable color or black-and-white photography, fine art reproduction, or producing color accurate proofs for client approvals, never before have Creative Professionals had such a powerful tool, allowing them to produce their vision without compromise.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 9880 Large-Format Printer:
I switched to this printer from traditional photographic printing. I'm impressed by the quality of the prints from the 9880. I use scanned 4X5 and 8X10 negatives. I've found that high quality drum or flatbed (like an Imacon)scans are needed for 20" wide or larger prints. I've used an Epson V750 flatbed for scans to make prints up to 24" wide. They are acceptable at normal viewing distance, but deficient for some subject matter at close inspection. The printer really shines, up to 44" wide, with high quality scans.
I do quite a bit of Black & White work and I've been very pleased by what this printer can do, it's close to the quality of traditional B&W photographic printing. There are some aspects that are better like complete control over every element of the image, which is difficult if not impossible with traditional printing. The 9880 software allows for "toned" prints, sepia, warm, and cold toned. You can adjust the intensity of the tone with the software.
Color prints from the 9880 are outstanding.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 9880 Large-Format Printer:
I had no problems setting up the drivers for both my computers, one is a Vista, and the other is XP64.
Test images straight from the printer were spot on color...haven't had to do one color profile tweak.
The colors are rich, and vibrant. The images are crystal clear, and I actually had to turn down my sharpening as the prints just seemed to have cleaner edges.
I've only had it for a couple of weeks, so things may pop up later that I don't like about it. But for now all I can say is WOW !
