I have two other pairs of noise canceling headphones (original Bose and Kensington). At first, it didn't seem as though the Panasonic was providing quite as much noise reduction compared with the others. So, I did a test comparing the Kensington to the Panasonic. I generated a pure 200 Hz tone, turned on each headphone, and then put it on. Judging only by ear, the Panasonic and Kensington seemed to be equivalent. (I didn't test the Bose.) The Panasonic does work well.
I think that there are two reasons for the apparent reduced effectiveness. First, the Panasonic has good passive noise reduction. Since the earpieces cover the entire ear, there is good noise reduction to begin with even without the electronics being turned on. Second, it seems that the Panasonic's noise reduction cutoff frequency is perhaps lower than competing products. Still, they are effective.

I used it recently on the airplane and the size is pretty big making it uncomfortable to sleep while using it. The noise cancelling is moderate as I still have to increase the volume quite high to eliminate plane engine noise. However, for the price, I don't think I can demand too much. If you just want to have it for some trips, it's not a big purchase but worth it.

Comments about Panasonic RP-HC150-S Noise-Cancelling Over-Ear Stereo Headphones:
The noise canceling feature on these headphones only adds background white noise - the sort that Dolby Noise Reduction used to cut out. It doesn't cancel out any noise, it just tries to cover it up with different noise.
The over the ear design of the headphones inherently cuts down on a lot of sound, but the noise canceling feature is misrepresented.
For their price - good sound and comfortable, but be careful with them, cheap plastic construction requires delicacy if they are to last. Nice that they collapse and come with a carrying bag.

I use the headphones primarily at work. I work in a cubicle and it helps tremendously to block out speaker phone conference calls in neighboring cubes and other loud conversations. I'm better able to focus on my work. They are comfortable and quite easily adjustable. They also fold up to quite a compact size.
I'm planning to take them on my next flight since they can plug into the flight audio outlet. This will save me the $ of having to purchase the airline headset which are no where near as high quality as these headphones are and are not clean.

Comments about Panasonic RP-HC150-S Noise-Cancelling Over-Ear Stereo Headphones:
I work in a busy and loud office environment with a large amount of chatter around me. I type documents that require 100 percent accuracy. I found myself typing conversations that were going on around me instead of the text. I bought these headphones so that I could listen to my ipod and block out the racket. They work great. I can still hear people who need to get my attention and my phone when it rings. Also, when it quiets down, I can shut off the noise-cancelling feature and save the batteries. They are comfortable, compact and have great sound. I highly recommend it.

Let's be honest, for this price you can't really expect and amazing sound and noise canceling. That said, I would say these headphones are pretty decent. Light, comfortable and the sound and noise canceling are not that bad. If you're not willing to spend a lot of money and still get some noise canceling you'll be happy with it.

For the price I'd say it's very good, but the noise canceling is not so efficient. I'm happy with it though.

Since I purchased this I've used it on two cross-country flights. The sound is really spectacular (especially for such a low price) and it's honestly a very comfortable headset. My one complaint is with the active noise-canceling. It does not do a great job, even filtering out the sound of airplane engines. Just an average job at best. The more expensive versions of this product do a much better job filtering out that sort of noise. However, the passive noise-canceling (aka the big honkin pads surrounding your ears) do a decent enough job blocking out sound.Note: Product requires 1 AAA battery to operate the active noise-canceling. There was one included with my purchase.

I use them with my mp3 player. As I have a convertible, I have fully tested the Noise-Canceling function and they work as documented. I do not need to turn the volume up any longer to over ride the wind noise even with the top down. They have good sound quality and are comfortable. Next time I would like to get something with a volume control on the headset.

Comments about Panasonic RP-HC150-S Noise-Cancelling Over-Ear Stereo Headphones:
These really block out a LOT of sound and are the greatest headphones I've owned yet! The only thing I'm not completely thrilled about is the "additional" noise canceling is a joke. There is no difference between having the device on or off. But, without the "additional" noise reduction, the headphones are still fabulous.
I love how they fold up and the case is just great for traveling with them. Not the most comfortable for long periods of time but they're growing on me.

As long as my wife likes them, they are great!! I tried them out and found that I would consider trading her for my PHillips NCH but she likes the larger headphone. Still a great deal for the price.

I use the headphones on flights. They're comfortable and do an excellent job in bringing the full quality of the airline's audio system to the wearer. The noise cancellation feature blocks out wind and engine noises, but does not eliminate passenger noises.
