The Zeiss ZI Viewfinder is a shoe-mounted viewfinder that offers comfortable viewing when using the 18mm ZM lens on the Zeiss Ikon camera.
The Zeiss Ikon camera viewfinder is designed to be used with lenses of focal lengths 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm. When using shorter focal length lenses a dedicated viewfinder for framing has to be attached to the accessory shoe on top of the camera. Focusing of the lens is possible by using the camera's range finder.

Comments about ZI Viewfinder for Zeiss Ikon Camera When Used with 18mm ZM Lens:
Probably due to its nature of wide-angle, this viewfinder is brighter than bare eyes!! I have yet owned the Leica Super-Elmar-M 18mm, which I bought this finder for, but I can't help but looking through this finder from time to time, just to enjoy its brightness!!

A necessary accessory with the Zeiss 18mm f/4 ZM lens. Brighter than the rangefinder, great optics, but only if you look directly through the center. Some sort of case to keep the viewfinder from gettng scratched would be appreciated.

Comments about ZI Viewfinder for Zeiss Ikon Camera When Used with 18mm ZM Lens:
I cannot ask for a better auxiliary viewfinder. It does not get in the way of any adjustments made to the camera's controls at all. It gives you a very bright and accurate "read" of what the 18mm ZM lens is putting on the film, and there is no need to squint or make diopter adjustments. This viewfinder is a must for the 18mm focal length.

Comments about ZI Viewfinder for Zeiss Ikon Camera When Used with 18mm ZM Lens:
I use last model with fine bright lines and my Voigtlander 15mm.
Usually, the brightlines of the external viewfinders show 10% less than the pictures taken.
So I made lot of tests and I buy a a 18mm and not a 20mm like all people say with a 15mm lens on an M 8.2 to make a 21mm view on the pictures !
