Comments about FirmTek SeriTek/5PM 5-Bay Host-Swap External eSATA Enclosure:
I am using with 5 Hitachi 2TB hard drives which are accessed as individual drives rather than RAID. The product has performed well. My previous experience with FirmTek has also been good, and I have found the company's technical support to be prompt and helpful.

Comments about FirmTek SeriTek/5PM 5-Bay Host-Swap External eSATA Enclosure:
Setup includes 5 1.5TB WD Green drives with SERITEK/2ME4 4-PORT PCIE CARD. Very easy setup; all I had to do was insert the hard drives, pcie estata card and setup the stripped RAID with Mac disk utility; setup in less than half an hour on my 2009 Mac Pro OS 10.6.5. I am using this enclosure for external video archiving and get write rates of about 105 MB/sec and read rates of 240 (results from Blackmagic Disk Speed Test writing from internal RAID to external RAID). It may not be an adequate solution for video capture but I haven't tried it; I capture on my internal RAID and then transfer to the enclosure.
Caution: I believe you need an internal RAID card to choose from the advanced configurations with data protection; I do not have a RAID card and have simple stripped software RAIDs. You will need to backup all data on FirmTek; I use WD 2TB external USB hard drives.
Overall, I believe this is a reasonably priced solution for video archiving and fast external storage for video for editing.

Comments about FirmTek SeriTek/5PM 5-Bay Host-Swap External eSATA Enclosure:
I purchased this product from OWC two years ago and use it in my Windows 2003 Server configured with 5-1TB drives in a Raid 5 configuration (4TB) connected to a Rocket Raid 2314 controller. I grudgingly paid the [$] price at the time after having two other brand enclosure have issues with this configuration. Since then this equipment has operated flawlessly, it is by far much more sturdy and substantial than any of the other units I had tried (an Icy Dock and AMS Venus T5). The power supply is somewhat oversized for 5 drives but that just means its operating below maximum which should translate to cooler and longer life. The drive trays are sturdy again unlike most of the competition. In general while somewhat on the expensive side this unit is built to last and I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for an eSata solution.

Comments about FirmTek SeriTek/5PM 5-Bay Host-Swap External eSATA Enclosure:
We had a norcom 500 that ran for about 3 years and then just quit. We had purchased a seritek card to use with it when Mac OS went to Snow Leopard (the Norcom card didn't support version 6.
The Seritek card worked great so we just ordered the Seritek case and put our old drives in it with a single esata cable to our Mac Pro. Fired right up and has worked fine for the month or so we have had it. Seems to be a good quality product. If we lose our other Norcom, we will buy this Seritek case again to replace it as well.
