This is a Manfrotto 2972 Double Ended Spigot has a 5/8" (16 mm) stud at one end and a 1/4"-20 threaded 5/8" (16 mm) stud at the other. It is ideal to link accessories to gripware such as the various versions of Super Clamp or any piece of gear with a 5/8" receiver.

I am pleased with functionality of this part and quality - well made (very sturdy)! Only suggestion I would make to the mfg would be to add threads to the opposite (blunt end) for added functionality.
I did modify the "blunt end" for additional functionality by drilling and tapping it with 1/4-20 threads.

here you go. with this & super clamp it is possible to connect 2 booms. depending what kind of boom using. you can either screw into clamp or the quick disconnect.
