The mLAN16E2 from Yamaha is an interface card for the MOTIF XS6 and XS7 keyboard synthesizers, that allows communication with a computer utilizing an IEEE1394 cable. mLAN is Yamaha's exclusive extension of the IEEE1394 protocol and allows multi-channel audio and MIDI communication between the keyboards and a computer.
The keyboards are also compatible with the 01x digital mixer or other mLAN devices on Windows computers, when this interface is installed. Due to the converters on the MOTIF keyboards, the audio resolution is capped at 24-bit/44.1kHz.
The mLAN-equipped MOTIF XS can provide up to six-mono audio inputs into the keyboard (three-stereo), sixteen mono audio outputs from the keyboard (eight-stereo) and three MIDI in/MIDI out channels.
The peer-to-peer functionality the board provides, allows for simultaneous recording to a software sequencer of a performance on the keyboard, along with the playback of the computer sequence software that uses the MOTIF XS as a MIDI tone generator. The board also allows for the monitoring of the computer audio output along with the audio output from the keyboard.
Note! The mLAN16E2 board is user installable. The MOTIF XS8 has the board already installed.
