This Dot Line Off Camera TTL Shoe Cord maintains all on-camera flash functions (including E-TTL II) for one Canon-compatible shoe-mount flash unit used off-camera at distances up to 3'. It is compatible with all Canon EOS or G series cameras - digital or film - except for the 630 and RT cameras.
This cable has a 3' heavy-duty coiled cord and features a shoe mount on the bottom of the flash connection shoe, as well as a 1/4"-20 socket.

It works well but I've had a few miss-fires with it. You have to align the flash precisely so all the pins on the flash make proper contact with the pins on the shoe or else the flash doesn't fire or properly communicate the ETTL function with the camera. There seems to be no problems aligning the part that slides into the camera's hot shoe. I use this accessory with the Canon 580EX. I also have a Canon 580EXII but have had a problem with the locking mechinism on the flash not completely locking onto the shoe. The 580EXII doesn't completely lock onto the shoe, because when you slide the lock mechinism to lock it, the foot of the flash moves in a downward motion. The 580EX tightens with a thumb wheel. One positive feature I like about it compared to the Canon model is that this one has a metal threaded socket to fasten the shoe to the bracket, whereas the Canon shoe is just a hole threaded into a plastic housing. The Canon shoe is easy to strip if you tighten it too hard.

I had a major problem! I set the cord up at home on arrival, took a few shots all good and packed it away safely in my roller case ready for a wedding I had to shoot a couple of days later.
At the shoot I noticed the flash not firing at times, after checking connections I gave up and removed it and connected it directly onto the camera and the flash worked fine....luckily! (no one likes problems at a wedding and I was not amused) when I loaded the images up, on the ones where the cord was attached and the flash didnt fire there are very distinct red laser lines across the images, completley ruining them (unless I turn them all B&W with filters) Looks like the malfunction between camera and flash caused the sync to be out and the camera has taken images of the metering laser light. yes could happen to anybody I supose but Ill be paying the xtra from now on to play it safe!

Does not work correctly with Canon Speedlite 430 EXii. Will not work in both vertical and horizontal positions. It's one or the other. Does not seem to have a good connection. Will have to return it for a dedicated Canon cord.

Comments about Dot Line Off-Camera E-TTL II Shoe Cord for Canon Cameras w/Hot Shoe:
This cord is not worth the money. I tried to save a little money and not buy the $100.00 Canon cord but I ended up buying it anyway. The flash only fired sometimes. It was not getting a good connection no matter how tight it was. I returned and bought the Canon cord and have been very happy. The flash fires everytime.

Comments about Dot Line Off-Camera E-TTL II Shoe Cord for Canon Cameras w/Hot Shoe:
This is a very useful tool. It allows you to be creative when you're shooting in places where you can not set up proper lighting equipment. You can hold your flash unit at various angles to your subject, which gives you dramatic effects, as well as giving the impression or natural ambient light, opposed to harsh results caused by on camera lights.
The only drawback is that your hands will be fully occupied. You may have to learn how to hang the flash and cord over your shoulder when you need a free hand to adjust your lens.

Comments about Dot Line Off-Camera E-TTL II Shoe Cord for Canon Cameras w/Hot Shoe:
3 feet doesn't do it for me. My plan was to modify the cord for length. I directly spliced in 20' of Cat 5. Careful soldering of offset wires (6) individually heat shrink sealed with a larger heat sink wrap over all of the wires has worked flawlessly. Did not work too well when I locked the flash down (contact problem?), but with a looser mount the contacts are good. My 430 EX II is now worth having for a small additional investment of $ and some tedious time consuming labor. I would not have considered the modification with a more expensive cord.

Did not work with my 430EX II. The flash only fired if I played with the connection on the shoe mount. Ended up paying the extra $$ for the Canon Flash cord.... which works perfect.

It did not work. I have a 20D and a Rebel EOS camera. I have a 540EZ and a 550EX flash and I could not get the cord to work with any combination.

Comments about Dot Line Off-Camera E-TTL II Shoe Cord for Canon Cameras w/Hot Shoe:
Sometimes the brand-name accessory is really better. But, let's face it - this is essentially a wire. Given the speed of the signals being transferred, any halfway decent cable would exceed the requirements for this purpose.
For less than half the price of the Canon cord, this one does the same job, just as well. In fact, it's even longer (3' vs. Canon's 2'), so you get a little more out of it.

I buy this product to use with my Orbis Ring Flash!
It was a deception! The cord it's not reliable! If I point the flash down or up, it just stop working, besides it doesn't work on my Speedlite 430 EX II from Canon. With the 580 EX II in ten times I fired the flash, it's just work on 4!
I believe the problem is locate at the hot shoe tha connect it to the flash unit!
