The Xtreme N Gigabit Router from D-Link combines the functions of a Cable/DSL router and a wireless access point into one compact device. The router allows you to share your Internet connection between several computers that can connect via the 802.11n wireless protocol, or via any of four wired RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet ports. The router is also fully backwards compatible with legacy 802.11b/g devices.
The router also features a firewall to protect you from malicious software that can attack your computer from the Internet, as well as wireless security to insure that your data remains private. These features make the wireless router a great way to add wireless access to your home network.

After running with a Belkin Pre-N router for the past couple of years, I decided it was time for an upgrade. I choose the DIR 655 based on features and consumer feedback ratings. I've had it nearly a month, and have been very satisfied with the performance.
The instructions were easy to follow and works well with Win XP Pro x64, Vista Home Premium x64, and Win 7 x64. (I have all 3) and our Wii (and the neighbor's too).
I utilized the USB port to hook up 500 gig HD, for backups and file storage, and that has worked fairly well. I have lost connection a couple of times, but it has always returned without having to do more than a restart on my computer. While a bummer at times, not enough to say it's been an issue.
It also has one of those little "link up" buttons on the side. I did not realize this at the time of purchase, but man is it a handy little feature. I have an Epson Workforce 610 wireless printer, and this made connecting to the network a breeze.
Range and Dual signal output. I live in a fairly rural area in a small development. We are at the very end of the local cable company's service run. I went ahead and enabled the "guest" signal and am running it wide open to serve as a hot spot for my neighbors and folks visiting the neighborhood. (yea, I'm a nice guy...) I kid you not, I can pick up the signal over 600 feet from my house, and it's a solid signal. Very sweet.
If I had to name any thing I don't care for with this unit, it would be the neon blue lights that flash on the front of the face. I have this in a highly visible area, and while I know it's working, they are bright and difficult to see exactly what is being highlighted.
In conclusion, this was my first D-Link router, and I feel it was a good choice, and would buy it again.

I recently changed my ISP provider from DSL to cable. I currently have a laptop with a built-in 11g card but am thinking of upgrading to a new one with an 11n card. Thinking I would see a dramatic improvement in speed if I switched from an 11b to an 11n router, I decided to go with with D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router.
The installation instructions were great, and the installation went smoothly. I was up and running in less than an hour. Downlaods are much faster now.
The only negative experience I have had is that I am now losing connectivity with my router more frequently than I did with my old router and DSL modem. Not sure if it's the router or the modem or some combination. I assume it's the router. It's easy to reconnect, but it's still annoying.

Downside - install should have been simple and painless. Unfortunately, there was no troubleshooting FAQ. My Internet would not work when I hooked up the router with my actiontec modem.[...]Fix was a simple change of IP address.

Color is quite different. I like a nice neutral grey or black, white is fine for a kitchen appliance.
Antennas are friction fit, and droop like a daisy on a hot day.
Blue lights are a little bright, more appropriate for a police car. My old D link, short lived though it was had just enough light to ascertain that the unit was functioning, but did not light up the top of my desk.

Easy to install and configure. Has good instructions in case of manual setup which I did not had to use. I also bought the Xtreme N Duo Wireless Bridge/Access Point by D-Link and I was able to link them without many issues. Good price in comparison for other routers.

I reviewed several routers for my Macs and this one fit the bill. My previous router was D-Link, and never game me problems - just that it was slow because it was outdated. Setup was easy, even though the Wizard is not available for Macs.

I was on the market to upgrade my dated and slow dlink B router and came across reviews of this router. Just as reviewers prior to me stated, it was easy to setup, fast and gave me more coverage than my previous dlink. It has a bunch of features I probably will not use but for the cost, it's a steal of a deal. If you don't need a dial band router, this is the one to get.

Comments about D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router:
I used included CD to set up the router, it was easy and flawless. I have 2 workstation and VoIP phone connected to it, also 2 laptops and BN nook using wireless connection. Laptop with wireless-n connects at 65Mbps, another one, with wireless-g at 54Mbps; no problems establishing connection. VoIP adapter, though, did not work; I think it's because adapter doesn't support Gigabit Ethernet. I connected it through my old 10/100 hub, and it fixed a problem.
It's 2.4Ghz router, does not support 5Ghz network. Range is sufficient for my house, which is rather small. And it has very bright blue lights; I keep it under the desk, and desk is glowing at night. Keeping it in plain view may be irritating.

[...] B&H had the best Price. I do not have anything negative about the product. It was so easy to set up, works great, looks good, connection is very strong, speed is very quick. My wife can't believe how fast her laptop is now. The connection has never droped as of yet it's been 2 weeks, and she uses it every night. Good product you will be happy with it.
