The Gary Fong Origami Flash Bounce Diffuser is a compact, collapsible flash diffuser that is designed to be used for direct ceiling bouncing applications, or in combination with the supplied diffuser flaps. Included are both the opaque flap, for neutral diffusion, and the amber flap, for warming effects.
Its innovative mounting design provides a secure and adjustable grip to any flash head, from a Nikon SB-600 to a Metz 45 handle mount. This means there's only one model you need to buy, ever.
The Origami, when collapsed, folds up to fit into your pocket.

The product is great except the fact that it breaks when used a couple of times. The bending area is to thin and gives up. I've been using and own all Gary's products and this is the best for general use from portraits to architectural interiors.
On the really bad side is the fact that you can not contact Mr, Gary Fong in any way to complain or get a replacement. I tried.

Mounting system a little unwieldy at first, but its fine once you get used to having it on the flash.
Biggest problem is cheap construction = wings are really flimsy. It did not survive modest amount of travel - usually in a suitcase well protected (I thought) by soft items. The wings didn't fold completely flat without some resistance, which contributes to the stress on them.
I would love to have another one, but can't see spending the money for something that can't travel with me, especially if it's only going to survive a couple of months.
If you can keep this thing safe, it's a wonderful piece of equipment, easily worth 4 stars, but it's useless once it breaks. Fong needs to improve the construction quality, and/or include a (small) hard-shell case for protection.

Comments about Gary Fong Origami Universal Foldable Flash Bounce Diffuser:
i am a wedding photographer and got to use this at my last two weddings. it has definitely filled out the bounce flash and made for some nice lighting effects. it is also great when the ceiling is too high or reflects unwanted colors onto the subject. the adjustable bounce hood is great for these situations.
it still remains to be seen how long the device will last under intensive use, but it is inexpensive enough to replace every so often. i am happy i bought it.

Comments about Gary Fong Origami Universal Foldable Flash Bounce Diffuser:
For [$], I thought I'd give it a try. I read the reviews, looked at some test shots and decided for [$], if it doesn't work, oh well. I received it in the mail, opened it up... it felt cheap... BUT!After some experiments and an actual run at a wedding, it works very well. Soft lighting, warm and white diffusers... use it as a bounce card with the white diffuser flipped down. It is very versatile for what it is.The next test is its durability. For [$], I expect it will probably not last long, and feels cheap. Only time will tell...

Comments about Gary Fong Origami Universal Foldable Flash Bounce Diffuser:
Much better results than before! The diffuser throws enough light on the subject without overdoing it. Gives good, direct lighting, yet softens the harsh effect. My photos look much nicer (at least on the PC). Well balanced color and lighting.
The diffuser is delicate, of course, and has to handled as such. Overall, a good purchase.

Comments about Gary Fong Origami Universal Foldable Flash Bounce Diffuser:
When you want to bounce only some of the flash power off the ceiling and walls behind you, and send some of the light to your subject, this works great. You can even vary the ratio.
It also gets the source of the light away from your lens -- not as much as putting it on a light stand, but great for fairly close candids.
It is of no use whatsoever outdoor.

Comments about Gary Fong Origami Universal Foldable Flash Bounce Diffuser:
Small and lightweight, packs nicely in my bag. I actually like this diffuser as much as the Fong dome diffusers, and is smaller. The durability could be a question in the long haul, but helps with softening the flash. As with all Fong products, I shake my head and think, "This thing must have cost all of a dollar to manufacture?" However, they work and there' no one else out there doing it. I do like the velcro strap, which holds the diffuser on the flash - much more secure than the dome setups. This diffuser used in combination with the portable umbrellas makes for a soft light.

I used this to shoot an award ceremony for a large organization and all my shots came out perfect since the ceremony was held in a place with very high ceiling and dim lighting. This was perfect to bouce and diffuse my flash.

I got to know about this thru a photographer.
I like that this packs flat.
I have used it for 3 jobs so far and i love how it manipulates the light from my Nikon Speedlight.
The light quality you get is spread quite wide, enough for a 6 person across group shot, is contrasty and bright without being too harsh.
I will experiment more with this product as i use it.

Comments about Gary Fong Origami Universal Foldable Flash Bounce Diffuser:
I bought it on a whim because I love my inverted dome (but cannot stand the fact that it always falls off). It took me a bit to get used to using it, but once I did - I love the outcome! The color is perfect and the flash is even if you use it properly. It is perfect for church weddings where the light is so uneven and the colors interfere. If you tip the flash at a 45 deg angle, it throws the light to the target - AMAZING! Also, it's great at low light receptions - no need for another off camera flash because this lights up your subject evenly. I am very pleased with it! So pleased that I am buying 2 more for my other flashes!

This is very smart, it folds flat works consistantly, but cheap construction. If it breaks tho, I will buy another. Because it pays for itself pretty quick. uch less bulky and expensive than other fong diffusers.

Very good solution for softening flash without taking up a lot of room in your bag. Solidly built.
"rubber band" base makes mounting very solid... but it's something else to loose. Gary Fong hasn't missed a trick to display his logo, of course.

Comments about Gary Fong Origami Universal Foldable Flash Bounce Diffuser:
Consistent light output, the attaching belt really works and holds the weight of the 40D with the 430ex and grip.
Only real problem is the Quality Control. Mine came with a plastic defect near the center that is a darkened color. Fixed it by adding white paint. Don´t over bend the flaps, sure to break if pushed too far back. Should last forever is cared for.
Portability is ideal and the light output matches other larger and more expensive diffusers. Lightsphere II has still better lighting.

This item does block some of your light but it does great at warming up pictures. it works best at a closer range than far away.
