The 4 TB TeraStation Live Multimedia Storage Server from Buffalo is a high-capacity hard drive array with an interface that allows it to be connected via wired Gigabit Ethernet.
In addition to providing simple network storage, the TeraStation can serve as a network server for up to two USB printers or USB 2.0 storage devices. You can also use the hard drive in conjunction with any DLNA-certified device to stream video, music, or photos directly to your home entertainment system without the need for an additional computer.
The drive is easily integrated into your network and can even be accessed via the FTP protocol. This makes it easy to share files among users. The included Memeo AutoBackup software even allows you to back up data from your network. These features make it an excellent solution for media streaming, data backup, or general storage in small networks.
- 4 TB Capacity
- 4 TB of capacity allows for storage of approximately 300 hours of uncompressed DV digital video, the equivalent of 851 4.7 GB DVD video discs, or up to 1,000,000 MP3 files.
- RAID Data Protection
- The TeraStation can be configured in RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 or RAID 10 configurations. RAID 0 provides the fastest access to your data and full storage capacity, but offers no protection in the event of an internal disk failure. RAID 1 mirrors all the data, cutting the storage capacity in half, but ensuring that data will be intact if a drive fails. RAID 5 gives you 75% of the total capacity by using space to store parity data. If an internal drive fails, you can rebuild the data using the parity data once a new drive is installed.
- Gigabit Ethernet Interface
- The Gigabit Ethernet interface allows users to access data and administrators to remotely administer the drive through a standard LAN connection, making it easy to add to your existing network infrastructure.
- Media Streaming
- The TeraStation allows for media streaming support when used in conjunction with any DLNA-certified device. This lets you more easily integrate your digital media with your home theater system.
- USB Drive and Printer Sharing
- The array features two USB ports for hard drive or printer connection. This allows you to increase the array's capacity with an external hard drive and to print documents from any computer in your network.
