Granted, using 8gb cards is not as handy as having the available non-stop storage of the 16gb SxS cards. But if you aren't shooting continuously and can pause for 5-10 seconds to slap in another set of 8gb cards when the first pair is full, you'll get lower cost for the same storage vs. buying a 16gb card.
At current prices, buying four 8gb cards instead of a pair of 16gb cards saves you almost enough to get another BP-U30 Sony battery with the cards for free. For me, another battery to count on is reason enough to change out cards more frequently until prices come down. And with more cards, you can still shoot while an assistant dumps files.
Keep in mind the record capacity is nearly doubled (55 min.) if you shoot in 720p instead of 1080p, which is still desirable to many video buying clients.

I use this to record music videos, commercials, interviews, or what ever I decide to film. I absolutely love the quick work flow. The only thing I don't like is it only can record about 10min of full HD per card.

So far so good -- Reliable and very durable. Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that the price is still to high.

Comments about Sony SBP-8 8GB SxS PRO Memory Card:
The media works like it should. It plugs into the Express card slot on the MacBook Pro, and copies to the drive. However, the cost at [$]for an 8g card, you might consider getting the PHU-60k recorder. This is about [$]and stores 60g. Much better for long format recordings like live events.

Comments about Sony SBP-8 8GB SxS PRO Memory Card:
Seriously,
I have two of these, and i don't need any more of them, because i just bring my laptop on site and just capture the footage in about 3 minutes and then clear it off the card. It's like never needing a tape again. It also cuts about 50% of your editing time. AND.... it fits in your expresscard slot.

Comments about Sony SBP-8 8GB SxS PRO Memory Card:
What is there to say? It does what it's supposed to with no problems. Holds about 25 minutes of footage in the EX1 or EX3 so if you can afford it you might want to go with the 16GB for higher capacity... and 32GB cards are coming out soon. Also, consider SanDisk cards. Sony is smart because they're letting third party manufacturers build cards too. That'll bring cost down as there's more competition. Panasonic should take notes.

While not the 57 minute recording of the 16GB version, this gives you 28 solid minutes of filming at 1080p24 on the Sony EX1 and 4 minutes to transfer into Final Cut Pro via the Express Card slot on a MacBook Pro.
