Similar to their Schmidt cousins, this VMC95L 95mm f/11.1 Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope from Vixen Optics exchanges the Schmidt's front corrector plate with a convex meniscus lens which not only eliminates the need for periodic collimation, but the nature of the lens requires a smaller secondary mirror which limits obstruction and increases contrast. The Mak-Cass optical path results in a slower focal ratio and narrower field of view versus a similar Schmidt-Cass, but the optical benefits makes this an ideal scope for planetary and double-star observation and imaging.
The scope is outfitted with a 1.25" eyepiece holder set on the top with a dedicated camera port in-line with the OTA that accepts an array of optional equipment to mount a variety of cameras and imaging systems. An internal 90° flip mirror allows you to observe your subject, then flip the mirror down to image it. This dual capacity eliminates the need to remove and install equipment which not only slows the imaging process down but also increases the chance of accidentally moving the OTA and losing your subject. The OTA is offered here without a mount or tripod for users that have a platform, or want to use it as part of a dual-OTA set up for star-parties. It is supplied with a 25mm Plossl eyepiece that yields 42x magnification, a red-dot finderscope, and a Vixen-style dovetail plate for compatible saddles. This OTA's compact form-factor belies its observation power and resolution and is not only a competent imaging scope, it is also ideally suited as a grab-and-go option for quick observation sessions or heading out to remote locations.
