Wow! Load this baby up with two lithium ion batteries and you can shoot forever. If you shoot a lot of vertical photos it is absolutely necessary. The shutter release and some control buttons are set up to make vertical shooting comfortable. And if you're shooting with a longer heavy lens like the 50-200mm zoom, it balances the weight of the lens with the camera, so even though it's heavy, there is less stress on your wrist.
Very nice product, does a lot for a reasonable price. I also would highly recommend that you have three lithium ion batteries if your a serious photographer. Two for the grip and a spare so if you run low during a shoot you can pop off the grip and finish shoot with spare. Oviously it adds weight to the camera, but it's worth it. And I actually like a little heft in my camera.

When I put this on my E-30, it made the camera feel like a truck. I felt I'd be embarrassed walking around with a camera this big. That doesn't mean it's a problem for anyone else. It's probably great, but it's just not for me and I returned it.

Feels very well balanced on my Olympus E-3. Holds two batteries, for longer shooting. When held in the vertical position there are duplicate buttons and other controls to make it easier to shoot with. Things that I don't like about it. Well, I will have to get back to you on that, so far I have not found anything that I don't like about it.

Love the solid construction and weather proofing on the battery holder. The only con I could find with the HLD-4 Power Battery Holder is that 1.2 volt NiMH batteries don't have enough kick to run an E-5.

Super easy to use, gives me power twice the time as I did before and simplifies my "portrait" pictures taking... So much easier than twisting my wrist. Not to heavy either... Just love it!

this battery grip is exceptional! i have it installed on my e-3, i think it's great that it's also compatible with the e-5! it really helps to balance out the camera, especially when shooting with longer heavier lenses. having all of that extra battery life while maintaining it's weatherproofing is a big help as well. i will be picking up a new neoprene camera strap this week... having such a hefty package hanging from your neck does not feel good, but that's the price you pay for shooting with quality gear.

HLD-4 feels good in my hand, but not as good as HLD-2. HLD-4 lets me use AA batteries which I think is excellent.

I have 3 of these already, 2 for E-3's and one for an E-30. Never have no problems with any one and don't expect problems with this one. They are built rock solid, reliable and give you the extra power needed. I really love the way they feel in my hand, the extra size and weight added to the camera is a plus for me. It gives the stability and control I need. Would not leave home without it....

You'll get alot if battery life using this grip. I shot over 200 photos and the battery was still showing full power. Helps balance the E3 better too. Well worth the cash spent. Not for the faint of heart though - together with the E3 this makes one heavy camera.

I use this holder for my Olympus E-30. It should be named as a power booster!!!
When I take pictures the "holder" increases the cameras speed including Auto Focus and writing speeds to the card !!!
I haven't put it to the test yet regarding battery life vs #'s of images but I'll bet that it will increase also.
See?? Told you it was necessary !!

if you have an E-3 you must get this battery holder. Not only does it extend shooting time but gives camera a better balance. I would not shoot without it.

I purchased my HLD-4 at the time I also purchased my E-30 more than a year ago. I've used it on numerous trips and often don't have to recharge batteries for a few days. Most recently, I traveled to Iceland, and on one day went for a 16+ hour tour of the western part of the country. I used the camera extensively that day and never had to use my spare batteries. Great devise, and I find the alternate shutter release button, and aperture, and shutter speed controls extremely useful. Others have noted its benefits when using larger lenses - I agree. It provides good balance with those lenses, despite (or because of) the extra weight. I also use it with my tripod, and find that it works well there too. A great purchase!

I originally bought this to use in assisting my daughter in several weddings, and the unit worked beautifully. It does add some weight, but the extra battery life it provides is well worth it. This is a solid unit that also gives you the option of shooting vertical shots with the extra shutter release in a much more natural position. It fits perfectly and provides the same weather protection as my E-3. Now that I have used it for a while I can't imagine going without it.
