The Ikelite AutoFlash AF35 kit is an effortless and affordable way to add a flash to your point-and-shoot camera system. Everything you need to get started is in the box. Just attach it to the bottom of your housing and start taking pictures.
The single tray attaches directly to most small Ikelite housings for point-and-shoot digital cameras. Mounting hardware is also included for use with most housings from Olympus, Canon, Sony and other manufacturers. The kit features a contoured handle with a rubber grip for added comfort, and the pop bead flexi-arm offers flexibility in flash positioning. No tools are needed to remove handle, arm and strobe assembly from the tray for packing. The system is lightweight above water for travel and approximately neutrally buoyant underwater when attached to an Ikelite housing with camera.
The exposure selector dial on the side of the sensor provides fine-tuning to optimize results with a variety of digital still cameras. Once you find an exposure level that you like, leave the dial on that number for automatic operation. For advanced users, the selector dial can be used as exposure compensation while remaining in automatic mode. The flash also features six manual power settings for full control over exposure.
When using an external wide-angle lens, consider adding a second strobe for broader and more even coverage. Adding a second strobe is easy with the #4035.1 AF35 Secondary Flash Kit, which includes a dual tray along with the right-hand flash assembly.
An external flash is your most important accessory. The ocean is one big, blue filter. As you descend, the reds and oranges quickly become muted shades of blue and gray. Shining a color corrected light source on your subject will bring back your subject's natural color.
Note! For small Ikelite housings only; not compatible with larger housings such as the one for the G11.

She is using a Canon A460 with the Canon housing
I have been doing underwater photography for nearly 30 years. My wife was able to take some photographs that I would be proud to claim.
The only problem I encountered was the adapter to match a Canon Housing. This did not hold the camera fixed in place. The template was about half the required thickness. I plan to use this as a template to make one that fits better.

This strobe did not have enough range of motion to aim the light where it was needed. In addition, the flex arm allowed the strobe head to flop around.

Comments about Ikelite AF-35 Kit:
I just returned from a week in Bonaire and used this strobe on more than 20 dives. It functioned perfectly throughout the trip. The auto flash function is very good and most of the time is quite accurate. The ability to chose manual settings does offer great versatility.
A great feature is the battery compartment is completely separate from the strobe electronics. A flood of the compartment shouldn't ruin the strobe. The O-ring is very easy to visualize and a quick look confirms the compartment is sealed.
I can't afford a DSLR set-up, so the combination of this strobe with the Canon 95S provides a significant improvement from other point-and -shoot underwater outfits.

Comments about Ikelite AF-35 Kit:
I bought this flash along with the ikelite underwater housing for a small nikon. We are not divers but kayakers who snorkel a good bit. I've had this flash for about two years and haven't got the first shot with it. When we first attempted to use it the flash simply stopped working before we ever left land. We contacted ikelite and sent it in for repairs. They sent it back and it worked a few times and once again quit before we ever got it wet. I will be sending this back to them but if it's no longer under warranty I'll just throw it away or sell it for parts / not working. The craftsmanship seems very good. And the housing for the camera is good. But overall I'd have to refrain from another ikelite product.

Comments about Ikelite AF-35 Kit:
The flash works great and is easy to install. The Flash itself looks good and seems like good quality. But I find that the dual-tray looks and feel a little "cheap". When Both the flashes are installed, the tray bends (overwater) and it looks like it could break easily. Underwater, it is not such a big problem but the tray bends a little. Still, for the price, this a very acceptable item.

Comments about Ikelite AF-35 Kit:
I purchased this to match an Ikelite case for my canon point and shoot to be used for a scuba holiday. The strobe performed flawlessly with daily use to 80 - 90 feet. The light output was sufficient to catch great images and the single battery change continues as I write. This gives you an entry level try at underwater photography at a very reasonable price.

Very simple to put together and operate, balances the camera housing nicely and has just negative buoyancy. Have taken some 80 photos with strobe and standard duracell/energiser batts still working ok[...]

Comments about Ikelite AF-35 Kit:
We were just getting into underwater photography, and wanted to start out slow. We began with just a housing, and then, on the same trip, started to use this flash. What an incredible difference it makes! You will not see any color except blue without it. You can start with just the housing, but you'll end up buying the flash after your first trip without it.

Comments about Ikelite AF-35 Kit:
I purchased the AF-35 as part of a package which included a Canon SD950 and Ikelite 6147.95 housing. This is an extremely versatile combination - compact, simple, and rugged for the beginner but has the features and controls for the more advanced. The AF-35 flex arm is particularly appreciated - no fussing with thumbscrews and ball joints. I have to also give high marks to Ikelite for their service. The battery compartment flooded on a recent dive, and per the Ikelite manual which encourages the return of any product with a problem, I returned it with a letter and my B&H receipt. Within two weeks the unit was repaired, retested, and shipped back to me at no cost. Bravo, Ikelite!

Comments about Ikelite AF-35 Kit:
It matched perfectly with my Canon SD-700 in its u/w housing. I have not used it u/w water but the above water tests indicate I will never dive with out it. I'm not an u/w photo tech but like taking nice pictures. I wanted something simple. This flash is easy to use and I can't wait to used it on my next dive.

Comments about Ikelite AF-35 Kit:
The housing worked very nicely, no leaks or fogging. Fortuately with the 1030SW leaks aren't much of a problem. The case was very easy to open and close. Most of the controls were very easy to use.
The only negatives I have for it are the buttons are a bit stiff and the up button is a bit hard to press. That is likely more a fault of the control placement on the camera than for the case itself. I wouldn't recommend this case if you need to wear heavy gloves.
The case comes with a diffuser and blocking card for the flash. The cards clip to the lense port and seem to be fairly secure. The blocking card is needed if you will be using the AF-35 flash unit. While a bit clumsy they do work. I would have prefered the option of putting a reflector for the flash inside the housing since I don't use the internal flash.

Comments about Ikelite AF-35 Kit:
The Ikelite AutoFlash AF35 was exactly what my camera needed! It was easy to setup and experiment with to get the right setting specific to my digital camera. I was disappointed taking digital photos prior to this purchase. Turns out, I just needed the right strobe to work with my camera. My previous strobe was waaay too powerful for my camera and was always washing my color out of my images. This one turned out to be just perfect!

I use the AF-35 Kit by Ikelite with my Canon DS600 in a Canon WP-DC4 Waterproof Case. The combination provides excellent lighting for my snorkel and scuba expeditions.
Make sure you have extra batteries if you are going to spend a lot of time underwater. Fortunately regular batteries work just as well as rechargeable.
