Comments about Hitachi DZ-BD70A Blu-ray DVD Camcorder:
I have been using this product for 3 months now and it is GREAT! This is a basic model for average shooting conditions. It does NOT have a lot of options other than basic modes. This unit will only work with SD memory cards that are 2 gig and under. Recording directly to Blu-ray disk is the only way to go. Forget the HDD models. Fast copy to pc for video editing saves alot of time. Just drag and drop the video file into your editing program and it copies it through the USB connection. Quality is great!!

Comments about Hitachi DZ-BD70A Blu-ray DVD Camcorder:
Love the camera! The video quality is nothing short of astonishing.
Pros:
- Excellent video quality
- Small, easily portable
- Comes with all you need, including an AC adapter, cables to connect to just about anything, and a Blu-ray disk.
- Easy to use; controls are fairly intuitive.
- The menu navigation on the camera (setup, etc.) is very easy. There is a little joystick on the LCD display that is used for this and it works just great.
Cons:
- The angle of the lens is too tight. To fully frame an adult standing, you have to be about 15 feet away.
- The auto-focus does not do well under poor and constantly changing lighting conditions. There is a manual focus, but it is electronic (as opposed to twisting a ring on the lens) and not responsive enough for dynamic shots. Example: I was filming a rock band, and the camera kept loosing and trying to reaquire the focus so things would go out of focus all of a sudden. Just a little better light would have avoided this.
- The built-in mike does not capture sound well if a little far or slightly noisy environment. For example, if framing an adult talking (15 feet away), the voice of the subject can be very low, and ambient sounds intrude very easily.
- The software for downloading and processing the videos is quite quirky. Sometimes it does not want to convert, sometimes the results are not what one expected. It takes some patience to get the videos off the camera and converted to whatever format suits. The end results are amazing though.
Basically, I would not give up this camera for anything. I do love it. I am going to acquire the wide angle lens and a little boom mike, practice with the focus, and that will make it absolutely perfect.
